Life & Work with Robin and Meg of Painted Tusk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin and Meg. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Robin and Meg started their artist journey together 8 years ago (2013) in a small online creative group. Meg was still attending university in Ohio and Robin was born and raised in Florida and working for the Walt Disney Company. Fast forward to 2015 and Meg received a Professional Internship with Disney and made the move down. We each tried our own separate hands at our own art careers with minor success. That is until Meg invited Robin to attend figure drawing classes with her at Disney Creative Entertainment. That very same day we met Timmy Britt who was an Honorary Imagineer having worked on the New Fantasyland expansion and Pandora: The World of Avatar.

He asked to review our work and then simply asked us: “Do you guys like Harry Potter?” With both of us being huge Potter fans, we calmly said yes. He then said: “I’m building a team of scenic painters to work for KHS&S Construction on the new Harry Potter project at Universal…. Would you be interested?” We both exclaimed “Yes!”

This turned out to be Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure! Our work in the queue landed us a first-place Eagle Award in the 2020 ABC Central Florida Excellence in Construction awards program. We also received an additional first-place Eagle Award for our work in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!

And then… the Pandemic hit. During our separation, we continued to draw nightly together and share work with each other. Our styles started blended and we realized this could be something. Not long after that the Ear for Each Other Facebook Group, led by furloughed Cast Memebers at Disney, posted a need for a mural.

We quickly answered their request creating an in-home castle wall mural to accent their fine art collection of Disney Castle paintings.

Not long after we started receiving more requests and then one morning we were hit with a Mission and a direction…. And thus, Painted Tusk was born.

Since then we have done murals and scenic art in schools, private homes, restaurants, and our largest project to date at Give Kids the World – on which we are currently working!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Though we never doubted our abilities nor our mission, we were met with some animosity and personal struggles.

As hard as those moments can be, we never questioned as to whether or not this is our purpose. We continue to move forward every day and meet those challenges head-on because we know we have more to accomplish and look forward to it!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in fine art mural work, meaning instead of generic graphic style murals we tend to treat the walls like a canvas.

What we are most proud of AND what sets us apart is our mission to not only create beautiful pieces but to also create beautiful relationships with our clients.

This all goes back to our icon, Mother Elephant. We want to invite our clients to join our Herd. Always promoting family and wellness.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Before starting our journey together, both of us felt that we would never be good enough to actually make a living being artists.

We’ve realized and believed that the bond we share as artists and friends is reflected in the pieces we create and that has made all the difference.
