Today we’d like to introduce you to Paola Evans.

Paola Evans

Hi Paola, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always dreamt of a job where I can fully express my creativity with no limits. Growing up, I never felt like I fit into “traditional” work environments that are fast paced and rigid schedules. I found myself becoming more and more emotionally drained and thought there was something wrong with me. Makeup was always a deep passion and side hobby I had, but wasn’t sure how to go about it as a career. It wasn’t until I moved to a different city after marrying my husband, that I was stumped with the question, “what can I do to provide for me and my family?” I knew I wanted to run my own business, especially after many toxic workplace experiences that left me jaded. I had made a instagram makeup account that was sitting there inactive for about a year. I finally was struck with inspiration, so I started posting again and this time, consistently. Little by little, I started adding photographers and models supporting their work. I was determined to make this dream work, coming out of my comfort zone by networking with them. Being so new to everything, it was intimidating at first. But seeing other creatives that are so transparent with their journey and story has helped me to feel more confident in my own skills. It is so rewarding to collaborate with people that share the same passion and vision as you. Now, I can proudly browse through my portfolio and tell myself that I really did all that with my own hands!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. Instagram makes the process seem linear when in fact, it only highlights your “wins.” It can be challenging to coordinate with other creatives just simply due to everyone having different schedules. And unfortunately there will be others who do not respect the time and effort you put into your projects.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a makeup artist that specializes in full glam and editorial looks. My signature look is very reminiscent of the 90s with some grungey elements. I take inspiration from artists like Kevin Aucoin and Scott Barnes. I think this style of makeup sets me apart from other artists that are more natural “clean girl.”

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the variety of different types of foods and different spots to hang out. The least thing I enjoy about Orlando would be the traffic.
