Life & Work with Priscilla Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Rose.

Priscilla Rose

Hi Priscilla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always been full of stories. I loved playing dress-up, pretending magic was real, and writing down my own ideas. As I got older, I became a voracious reader. Eventually, I went to UCF and majored in Creative Writing, where I really got to hone in on the craft and explore the magic of my own… storytelling.

I eventually published my first book, a novella called Shadow of Eternal Flames. That was in 2022, and now I have an anthology out that I organized and my debut full-length novel should come out this fall.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always obstacles. It was really hard to balance school, and working full-time, with writing. Publishing (whether querying or independent) is an expensive process. I was lucky that my husband believes in me, so he helped me a lot. He read my story and encouraged me to keep going. So did a lot of my friends, which I am so grateful for.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an independent romance author and I’m also an English teacher, though I keep the two very separate. I love teaching, and I love my students, but I’d also love to one day pursue writing full-time. I especially prefer to write fantasy and monster romance. I think what sets me apart is that my stories are very fun, and I always have queer-normative worlds. LGBTQ+ can see themselves in my story, and my casts, and know that someone sees them. Sees us!

I also love to have women/femme characters of all kinds. Sweet & soft women, tough & scary women, big women, small women, bisexual women, etc. I love for my main characters and their friends to reflect all different walks of life. I think having diversity within storytelling can make the fictional universe feel more real, giving it that extra layer of depth.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I think everyone will agree I talked too much growing up. I didn’t always have the easiest childhood, and my family definitely experienced some hardship, but I was always the smiling kid. The obnoxious, very loud, smiling kid. I was also always very headstrong, and I think that shows in my stories. I always loved reading, anime, animals, and the water, and that remains true, even today!
