Life & Work with Rachael Aderhold

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Aderhold.

Hi Rachael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Black Owl Travels was created out of love for my family and the adventures we go on. I am a wife and mother of four and two of my children are special needs. For a long time, our family was struggling and going through difficulties. We used to sit together and watch videos of places we dreamed of one day visiting. Through some of our hardest days, daydreaming of big happy adventures was our escape. Together we supported, motivated, and encouraged each other. And when our hard work began to pay off we decided to take our first family vacation. Our destination was an easy choice. Orlando! We quickly fell in love with everything the Orlando area has to offer.

It became our home away from home. My autistic son found a place where he could escape into his favorite fantasy worlds. And my younger son with Childhood Apraxia of Speech soon discovered that smiles and laughter on our adventures were his bridge to communicating with others. Moving to the area was an easy choice for our family. We decided to share our adventures and help others plan their travels to the area.

Going out and exploring all that Orlando has to offer and being able to share that with others is a full-circle moment.

My daughters and I have bonded over creating our content and we are constantly discovering new things to explore and share. We hope that there are families out there watching and dreaming and that we can help them on their adventure!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a special needs family, we started this journey knowing that challenges and difficulties are pauses, not stops. Our family has been through a lot. Medical crisis, losing everything, addiction, and recovery for a loved one, and days that felt like they were impossible to survive at the time. I have always been the type of person that wanted to make others happy. I have always tried to find something to be glad about no matter what I was facing.

The road to get to where we are now was brutal at times. But we held on to our daydreams and pushed forward. I wanted to get to a place where we can share our stories and inspire others. I am doing what I love and I am beyond lucky to be able to do it with my family. The cherry on top is that I get to share our content with so many others and it brings me so much joy to help other people plan and explore.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a digital content creator and travel planner. Black Owl Travels showcases widely known and newly discovered places to go in the greater Orlando area along with bonus content for places outside of central Florida.

We started making videos on TikTok and Facebook reels and were met with amazing reception. What makes us special is that we can cater to several different viewpoints. Large families, families with disabilities, teens, younger children, adult outings and date nights, over-the-top vacations, budget-friendly plans, theme parks, and small-town places.

We are incredibly proud to be able to show such a variety. We are out having fun and enjoying life and are so happy to be able to share that with others. Whether it’s helping someone plan a vacation, giving inspiration for an adventure, or providing something for someone to dream about one day, we do it all with pride.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We are always looking for new places to visit, things to do, drinks to drink, and food to eat! We love having people send us suggestions on places to check out.

We would love to collaborate with local businesses and other content creators in the area. Our biggest support comes from people watching, liking, and following us on social media. You can check us out on TikTok at Black Owl Travels, on Facebook at Black Owl Travels or Rachael Aderhold, and on Instagram at @Rachael_Blackowltravels.
