Life & Work with Ravon Rhoden of orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ravon Rhoden

Hi Ravon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ravon is Known as Steely and he hails from the vibrant city of Montego Bay, Jamaica. After spending several enriching years in the U.S., he still carries the island’s rhythmic pulse in his heart. His musical journey began two decades ago when, as a curious 11-year-old, he was captivated by a steel drum band performing after church in his community.

“I just remember the sounds filling the neighborhood, and I was drawn in. I couldn’t resist peeking at the scales on their blackboard. It turned out I had a knack for it,” Rhoden reflected. That day sparked a lifelong passion, leading him to join their practices every Sunday.

Rhoden’s passion for music eventually paved his way to America. Before settling in Florida, he traveled the seas on cruise ships, sharing his love for music with diverse audiences. Now, as a solo artist, he showcases his vocals alongside the steel drums, while also being an integral member of a band and an accomplished songwriter in the reggae genre.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey hasn’t been completely smooth, but I wouldn’t say it had significant struggles either. From a young age, I was blessed with the opportunity to pursue music, which has become a true passion of mine. I genuinely appreciate both the challenges and the smooth moments that have come my way. Each experience has shaped me and contributed to my growth as an artist and a person.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional musician specializing in steelpan and reggae music. As a songwriter and producer, I focus on creating unique sounds that resonate with audiences. I’m particularly known for my dynamic on-stage presence and crowd engagement, as I have developed an extensive repertoire of over 2,500 songs, from playing in almost every tourist resort on the north coast of Jamaica from age 13.
the next phase of music journey was then leaving Jamaica to cruise ships for 6 years 2011-2017, doing 3-5 month contracts for 3 cruise companies, 23 different ships and 30+ countries.
I also perform from my own catalogue of music that was produced more recently.

What sets me apart is my high level of versatility and my perfect pitch, allowing me to adapt to various musical styles with ease. I’m most proud of my commitment to believing in myself and my journey. I’ve embraced the process and refused to give up, which has allowed me to grow and evolve as an artist.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is the ability to love. It keeps me present, brings me peace, and allows me to interact with others without judgment. Love makes the music and performing sweeter and often inspires my songwriting, providing me with countless creative ideas to explore.
