Life & Work with Robbie Cox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robbie Cox.

Hi Robbie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started writing when I was in seventh grade because the teachers bored me. So, I created fantasy worlds with quirky characters and wrote their stories when I should have been listening to the teachers. From there, I moved to freelancing for various magazines, family, retirement, religious, and created a small portfolio. In 2010, I started a blog, The Mess That Is Me, where I shared my quirky insights about life and people, making fun of myself as well as those closest to me, and then someone encouraged me to return to my fiction writing. I published my first story in 2011 and now have over fifty titles among two pen names, Robbie Cox and R.C. Wynne.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Writing itself is fun. I get to explore new paths, new characters finding themselves, delve into issues that affect everyone. Publishing, now that’s the hard part and always seems to be changing. Not evolving necessarily, just changing, and most times for no rhyme or reason. The challenge is keeping up with everything without pulling out your hair. Still, it’s also fun as I get to become lost in new worlds and adventures.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a storyteller. That’s really it. I love to watch people and ask, what if? And then I follow those rabbit trails until something pops up that I can grab a hold of and run with. Being male in a female led genre, I’ve been complimented on my female characters and how lifelike they are, so I’m extremely proud of that. I also love helping other authors, and I’ve created a group on Facebook called A Scribbler’s Retreat where we hold each other accountable and share our experiences.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family, because they are the world to me. There has never been a stronger support system and loving group of people.
