Life & Work with Rorie Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rorie Smith.

Hi Rorie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for hair started by doing my mom’s hair as a young girl. All throughout my childhood and teenage years, I would do my mom’s hair before for her shifts at a local restaurant. From there, my love for hair and beauty only grew stronger. I graduated high honors from the Daytona State cosmetology program after having my son. A true example that it’s never too late to take that leap of faith and do what you love! I now specialize in blonding and balayage services in the Ormond Beach area. I get to do what I love day in and day out and help people find their confidence and inner beauty. If I could leave people with one piece of advice, it would be to always stay true to yourself and never underestimate your potential for success!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not, in late 2018 I was in an accident that left me unable to walk for over a year. I had to relearn everything I thought I knew and start over from scratch. Looking back now, it made me realize how strong I could be and how precious time is. After having my son and recovering, I knew that I would not settle for spending any more time doing things I didn’t feel 100% passionate about. I made the decision to take a leap of faith and never looked back since.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a hairstylist in Ormond beach. I specialize in blonding services and balayage. My absolute favorite thing to do is total transformations. I love taking the hair to a place the client never expected and then seeing them see themselves in a whole new light. I am most proud of my desire to never stop learning. Education is the key to success! I feel that my constant adaptation to new methods and trends as well as my love for people is what sets me apart from others.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was winning tickets to see Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera in concert. In true Christina fashion, I braided my hair in a thousand tiny braids and covered myself in body glitter. I stayed up till midnight singing genie in a bottle and drinking root beer floats from the 2nd row… best night of my life.
