Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephan Mondesir.
Hi Stephan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Boynton Beach, Florida, and grew up in a first-generation immigrant household. I witnessed my parents who migrated from Haiti, portray exceptional work ethic in every aspect of life. My father, a carpenter by trade, and my mother, a real estate entrepreneur, both passed on to me my passion for entrepreneurship. Growing up, I took what I watched and what was instilled in me and by the time I was in high school, I was planning out different business ideas and ventures in my head. As soon as I graduated high school, I knew what my next steps would be; I attended UCF and I majored in Business and Marketing to help prepare me for the business world. While at UCF towards the middle of my undergrad career, I gained interest in the world of personal fitness, physique, and strength training and eventually learned that training my body was in sync with training my mind. I became a certified personal trainer in a way to hone my skills, demonstrate consistency, and dedication, and easily saw it as a way to help people. Personal training was a great stepping stone for me as I began to really network with different types of people and help transform their lives for the better and help me create the mindset, I needed to fulfill my goals. My goal was always to graduate with my degree and pursue my real estate license in the future – knowing that 90% of millionaires are invested in real estate and with most of my family members were into real estate, I wanted to make that dream my reality.
Towards my senior year of college, I started to evaluate more what I was going to do with my college degree and the desire to be in the real estate business. I realized I was getting a degree only as a means of accomplishment but not truly doing it for myself or as something I can truly use. I became overwhelmed with the pressures of school and work, so I decided to take a different route and finally pursued my real estate license. My mother was always buying properties, building up her portfolio, and creating ways of multiple streams of income which was one of the main reasons I felt I could change my path. After seeking wise counsel and taking the time to invest in me, I took all the necessary steps and obtained my real estate license. While transitioning to the real estate world, I was still working as a personal trainer – trying to launch my real estate career and balancing my strict schedule with my clients became challenging. Although challenging and exhausting, I was determined to make it work but in March 2020 the decision was made for me.
When COVID happened in March 2020, all gyms were shut down, personal training stopped, and I completely shifted all my focus to real estate. Real estate being an essential business, gave me the opportunity to continue to work as an entrepreneur and to learn how to navigate the world of real estate and investing. In the four years that I’ve been in real estate, I have learned and seen a lot. Through the various changes in the economy, I am still able to help first-time homebuyers, educate my peers and help people make smart business moves. I am now diving more into commercial real estate and learning from my mentor, Tony Benge of Benge Development. I have seen growth in myself not only as a realtor but as an active real estate investor. I am able to help facilitate housing for families when it comes to residential and commercial, I am building up the opportunity to create jobs and spaces. I love everything about real estate and where it has taken me so far. I am currently practicing real estate in the Central Florida area, where I live with my wife Eunice and our French Bulldog, Azizi. My goal is to eventually own a real estate development company and continue to build my portfolio for my growing family and help educate people on the importance of real estate and building generational wealth.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I personally believe with anything new; it takes time to learn and assimilate. One month you could be on top and another month, the high altitude you were on comes down. But in the midst of it all, it’s all about consistency and always pushing forward. I typically encounter challenges due to external factors, the economy, fluctuating interest rates, and/or time. Real estate is such a competitive market and those external factors I cannot change myself so I focus on what I can work on. It’s important as a realtor to show potential clients that you have value and can bring something different to the table. How I try to overcome this challenge is to sell myself; I think it’s important that I brand myself in a way that clients buy in on me as a realtor and that will help create a bond, foster a relationship, and end in a transaction. I am also constantly working on my time management skills, especially since I am not working a traditional 9-5. Between open houses, private showings, meetings, and working on your client’s schedule, having a consistent routine is what helps me to stay on track and stay focused. I focus and work on the things I can control and watch how it works in my favor.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a realtor and acquisition specialist. I specialize in making my client’s dreams come true by helping them buy and sell their homes. In addition to the work, I do in residential real estate, I also assist business owners in buying and selling properties for commercial purposes. Within my role as an acquisition specialist, I conduct market research and analysis of potential real estate investments for a firm.
My real estate work has granted me the opportunity to learn so much about myself -negotiating skills, being an effective communicator, and being able to pass on real estate knowledge. I have always been big on relationships and I am blessed to have clients who have turned into lifelong friends. I genuinely care for people and I want everyone I encounter to achieve success and make smart business decisions. If I can make one small impact on someone’s life then I truly believe, I am doing my part.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I love quotes. One of my favorites quotes is “Nothing grows inside your comfort zone”
