Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Torregrosa.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I earned my degree in Fine Art Photography from the University of Florida and began my career in Gainesville, gaining invaluable experience working with both a commercial photographer and a portrait studio. In 1992, I launched Studio T Photography in Orlando. To this day, I still love my job!
I have the privilege of meeting fascinating people, hearing their stories, and helping them to see just how remarkable they truly are through my lens.
In 1992, I opened my first Studio T Photography location in Orlando. We worked there for 17 years. Then I spent 14 wonderful years in Winter Park before creating my most incredible studio yet, right here in beautiful Sanford.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I was a young mom, pouring my heart into both my family and my business, finding balance felt almost impossible. I was chasing the dream of being everything my kids and husband needed, while building a studio I could be proud of and most days, it felt like I was falling short on all fronts.
I had invested heavily in top-tier analog equipment, believing I was set for years to come. Then, digital photography swept in and changed everything. To keep up, I had to sell my beloved film gear just to afford the latest digital tools that seemed to become outdated every few years. It was exhausting and, honestly, frustrating.
At the same time, client expectations were shifting. People who once treasured heirloom-quality printed portraits started asking for digital files. I found myself spending more time than ever crafting meaningful images, only to be asked for the digital negatives. It was a tough season creatively and emotionally.
But today, I’ve found my rhythm. I’ve curated exceptional offerings for both my portrait clients and my headshot and branding clients. I’ve built a studio experience I’m truly proud of—and yes, I’m genuinely happy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Every artist holds a unique vision, one only they can bring to life. We’re shaped by our experiences, constantly evolving through our daily work, continued education, and a steady stream of inspiration.
For me, that inspiration begins with the person or group standing in front of my lens. I ask thoughtful questions because I genuinely want to understand them, where they’ve been, who they love, and what lights them up.
From there, we collaborate on every detail: wardrobe, setting, and the overall vibe of the session. But the most meaningful part is designing the final art, whether it’s a signature piece for their home or a curated collection to enjoy every day. Together, we create something truly personal, timeless, and beautiful.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Embrace who you are fully and unapologetically. Trying to blend in or mirror others only dims the qualities that make you unforgettable. The more your potential clients understand your story, your values, and your style, the more your dream clients will be drawn to you. Your uniqueness isn’t just a strength, it’s your superpower, and it deserves to be celebrated.
