Life & Work with Taja Symone Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taja Symone Evans.

Hi Taja, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story starts out as being a traditional artist when I was in high school. I knew nothing about digital art and I didn’t want anything to do with it. It was foreign to me. My boyfriend at the time (and now fiancé) Isaias Oliver a.k.a. @thebreakfastgod convinced me to enroll in the Graphic design courses that the magnet high school we attended offered to the students. During this time, I was still not too keen on digital art and I was terrible at it, hilariously. As I continued throughout those classes, I still wasn’t hip to digital art and couldn’t hop on that wave so I didn’t continue it. When I began college, I was pursuing a Mass Communications degree at Florida International University in Miami, FL. Being in Miami did spark one thing in me, my love for the act of creation. Even though I wasn’t pursuing a creative degree, I would involve myself in art whatever way I could. I eventually landed myself a job as a photographer for the university’s student-run publication, became an event photographer for a well-known event promotion group on campus, and began designing cover art for small musicians at my school. This is what truly sparked my love for design, being around creative people constantly. As time progressed, I ended up leaving FIU and transferring to a school closer to home, Full Sail University after finding out that Isaias and I were expecting a child. During this time, I spent a lot of time deciding what I really wanted to do with my future. Did I want to play it safe and transfer to UCF and get a normal degree like everyone else? Or did I really want to give myself the opportunity to that I deserved? I decided to take a chance on myself and attend Full Sail University and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself thus far. Being there really pushed me to find myself and my voice as a creative, I was able to find my workflow and establish myself as a designer and make income just from selling my art and I couldn’t be happier. Now, I label myself as a MULTIMEDIA CREATIVE, not just an artist or designer, someone who is well versed in many realms of creativity. That’s how T. SYMONE VISUALS came to be.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It most definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. It’s been the toughest I have had to face yet. Imagine getting pregnant, UNEXPECTEDLY, during your sophomore year of university. That experience alone nearly broke me and almost caused me to stop making art completely. During that time of my life, my mental health took a turn for the worse and I didn’t do anything creative for months at a time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is a lot of things because I dabble in a lot of different forms of art. I am well faceted in branding, logo creation, illustration, photography, 3D concepts as well as traditional art. I am known in the design community for mostly my logo and branding work but I have also created good standing for myself amongst the illustration community as well. As a creative individual, I would say what I am most proud of is my ability to connect with clients and creatives, as well as my ability to teach others about design and creative endeavors. I am a strong believer in the learning from everyone and everything around you and I feel as if this is what sets me apart as well.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The list of people I could thank for where I am on my journey is endless. Definitely, my closest friends and clients that constantly think of me first whenever embarking o0n a new project for their businesses, etc., the individuals that constantly repost and reshare my work on social media, Reyna Noriega and Lizzie Suarez who have definitely gave me some of the best professional advice I could of asked for while establishing my business and my best friend who is always there for me even when I am not there for myself.
