Life & Work with Tariq Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tariq Evans.

Hi Tariq, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I wasn’t really good at sports music, singing, dancing, and acting were on my list, and still on my list. My dad was a big sports person and that was how she showed his love, at the time I was not interested in sports our connection was off. One day after years of getting beat by my little sister in almost everything, I said I was going to work hard to get better. I was in the 8th grade I thought by the time I blink my eye I will be going to college. I wasn’t really great and school and I knew I didn’t want a 9 to 5. The track was the only thing that could get me out and into school. I work hard from that point forward.

From there I started to break records and be recognized as one of the most diverse athletes in the State of Florida.

When I went off to college I had this idea I would meet people for music, be a part of a great team, and learn about god because it was a Christian school. My world was turned upside down when friends stop being friends, and coaches stop caring. I really learned that college as an athlete is a business, not a movie or something that you made up in your head that first year of college I went into a mental institute because I tried to commit suicide.

I end to stay in eh hospital for a month before they called my parents and let them know where I was. I left the school in April. I faced a lot of trials after, but I didn’t go through it alone because I had awesome friends. They got back on track and coaching. They also encourage me with Amy’s music. going through everything I went through I had to make Royal Running to help kids not make the same mistakes I made.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth ride I had a lot I had to work on such as my attitude, the friends I hung around, and the way a carried myself. I also had to learn how to protect my space and peace.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood moment was my first meet in my junior year at The First Academy. When I was going to Gainesville High School because that was the beginning of something new for me. I PR’ed that whole day and I found my inner beast.
