Meet Tasha Harrison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Harrison.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I previously owned a wedding planning company for five years and we did a lot of floral and design. My background has always been in the hospitality industry. My husband and I moved to Winter Garden about a year and a half ago. When we moved, I noticed there were no florists on Plant Street and I thought that was rather odd because it’s such a bustling little downtown. But as a young family with two little kids, we weren’t in the place to open up a flower shop.

A couple of months went by and I happened to be on Pinterest and saw a bicycle Flower cart. I thought, “oh my gosh! That’s the way we can bring fresh flowers to downtown Winter Garden!” I showed it to my husband and he offered to build it for me. We started talking about the idea in July 2020 (in the middle of the pandemic) and by October, we had launched. We are honestly flabbergasted by the response from the community. Everyone has been so supportive, kind and welcoming and we’re just really grateful to be serving the town that we love so much.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been pretty smooth, especially when you consider launching a business in the middle of a pandemic but the response from the community has been incredible. As we are now in summer our biggest challenge is the heat. So we shortened our hours and are buying very hardy blooms for the summer to ensure that our clients are still getting a lot of life out of the flowers that they buy from us.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We do hand-selected and customized bouquets. At the cart on Friday nights and Saturday mornings, customers can specifically select the flowers that they want, as much or as little as they want. It’s wonderful because it allows for the person who has five dollars in their pocket to buy a flower for their girlfriend. Or a husband to come and select a beautiful full bouquet for his anniversary. Or a lady to buy a handful of flowers for a vase in her office as she works from home. It’s amazingly customizable and people love that! Also, we here all the time that we carry blooms that people aren’t able to get just at the grocery store. At certain times of the year, we carry blooms like peonies dahlias hydrangeas etc. These are flowers that people remember from their grandmother’s Garden or in their wedding bouquet and it’s a delight for them to be able to find it and purchase it by the stem.

We also do custom arrangements for any event in your life- birthday, anniversary, get-well, hostess gifts, holiday centerpieces, etc., and people can order those at any time, not just when the cart is out on Plant Street in Winter Garden. In addition, the cart is available to have at weddings, bridal showers, baby showers or corporate events.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband, certainly, for building the cart, supporting my crazy ideas and being the behind the scenes business partner. My assistant Hope has been an absolute godsend and we are actually interviewing right now for a few more team members. Marjorie at Elevate Brand Media for amazing Brand Photography!

Salome with Oh La La Studio. She handles my social media and I’m so grateful for her excellent, consistent work. Really at the end of the day, I’d like to thank God because this was not my idea. I certainly had no intention of ever starting a florist business or even knew that I could do a bicycle flower cart. I really believe it was His idea to start this.
