Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Rassmann.
Hi Taylor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
In recent years, drone work has experienced significant growth and expansion, and I have always been interested in getting one myself. After careful consideration, I invested in a drone, embracing my passion for amateur flying and photography. I quickly acquired the necessary flying techniques, closely resembling video game camera movements. I had unknowingly been training for years! As my confidence grew over time, I decided to take the FAA’s Remote Pilot Certification Program, a pivotal step I successfully accomplished on my first attempt! This exam allowed me to not only fly recreationally but for commercial purposes as well. I owe much of my progress and success to the support and encouragement of my wife, who has been my strongest advocate. She is part of a local women lead surf group, and I have attended events taking some amateur photography. In discussions with Ami, the group’s leader, I proposed providing drone video and photography services after seeing a post on her Instagram page about an overhead drone shot. By working hard and seizing opportunities, I have turned my passion for drone videography into a rewarding and respected endeavor, thanks to my wife’s invaluable support and the trust the women’s surf group placed in me.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
My road has been relatively smooth, with not many struggles along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us more about your work. next
Over the last 20 years, I’ve taken amateur to semi-pro photography of friends, family, and clients at countless sporting events. This allowed me to specialize in drone sports photography and video with a manageable transition. I am known for my artistic viewpoint, collaboration, and ability to wait for “just the right” shots. I am currently most proud of my flower petal shots working with the Central Florida Women’s Surf Group.
My preparation and in-depth knowledge of the sports I am filming sets me apart from others. I do extensive research, plan a shot list, and familiarize myself with my location before the client arrives.
What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, the industry will continue to grow due to increased accessibility. The cost of drones continues to decrease, the features and ease of use continue to rise, and people are more familiar with flight controls.
