Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Brent
Hi Tony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was hooked when I saw my first magic show at seven years old. By age twelve, I was performing magic shows at birthday parties for other children, charging five dollars.
As I grew older, I became interested in comedy and theater, overshadowing my interest in magic. I studied theatre at the University of Tennessee, and once I graduated, I worked various “regular” jobs and co-owned two coffee shops along with my wife, Mitzi, and another couple,
In 1992, I took the plunge and went full-time as the magician at Circus Circus Casino in Tunica, MS, where I worked for two years. Afterward, I performed at universities, corporate events, theme parks, and anywhere I could get hired.
I was hired by Disney in 1999 to perform at Hollywood Studios. During that period, I was asked to help start a new dinner show concept inside the iconic upside-down attraction WonderWorks. Our show is called the “Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show,” I have performed thousands of shows in this venue.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been fortunate in that I’ve had several long-running performing contracts. The problematic periods were between shows when I always searched for the next paying gig.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I try to combine the disciplines I have studied—theatre, physical and verbal comedy, magic, and improv—into one show.
I do characters and impressions, along with tons of audience participation.
I’m most proud that this show is still going strong after twenty-four-plus years!

My full name is Tony Brent Hollowell, and I’ve written several speculative fiction books under that name.
