Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Dawkins.
Hi Tracey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved photography, it runs in my blood. But when I had my two boys and left the corporate world behind, I felt myself drawn to it. It started with taking pictures of my boys and then their sports teams. I was the mom at their school that always had a camera around her neck. One night I had a dream that a friend and I started a photography business, and we did. That was 15 years ago.
I have come a long way since then, and have been on my own now for the last 8 years. I am following my passion, high school seniors. I specialize in high school seniors and their families. I truly love working with these kids, and they have blessed my life and continue to amaze me every day. To me, it is all about the connections and doing everything in my power to make them feel special, beautiful and enough.
I stay in contact with my seniors, and have the pleasure of watching them grow through their college journey, falling in love, and finding their first real jobs. Then I do it all over again with their younger sisters and brothers or their friends. Always follow your dreams, they will never lead you astray.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been blessed, the road has been fairly smooth. I work with the best kids in the world! Probably the hardest thing for me is having one of my past seniors die in an accident. It helped, to be able to put together a slideshow of his life for the family. I also have seniors that suffer from illness and life threatening disease, this is heartbreaking. But, I am inspired by how these young adults face these challenges and continue to thrive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Tracey Dawkins Photography is a boutique photography business that specializes in high school seniors. I offer world class service, and a fun and stress free experience. From start to finish I am with you all the way, helping you choose locations, coordinate outfits, helping you to feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera as well as determining which pictures and products would suit your needs best.
I am known for my ability to help my seniors have fun and be themselves in front of the camera. My tag line is “dare to BeYOUtiful!” I want them to be themselves and let their style and personality shine through.
It makes me proud when I have parents texting and calling me to tell me thank you for making the experience so fun and meaningful. I have seniors tell me this was one of their favorite memories of their senior year. And when I show the family their senior’s pictures for the first time, I am crying right along with them, knowing their child will be leaving the nest soon.
What set’s Tracey Dawkins Photography apart from other high school senior photographers, is my connection with these kids. I go to their sports senior night, I go to their graduation party, I celebrate them every chance I get, and I build a bond with them that lasts for years to come. These kids are amazing and I am honored to be invited to share a small part of their senior year with them.
What does success mean to you?
To me success is making a difference in someone’s life. When my business relationship is over with my clients, I have become their friend and that is my definition of success.
