Meet Victoria Wade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Wade.

Hi Victoria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out as a Disney college program participant and the Disney big just stuck with me ever since. After returning home from my program, I wanted to keep in touch with that magic and thus, my Instagram was created. This eventually expanded to other social media, the first being tumblr, where I first hit 10k followers. As I grew as an individual, so did my platforms. My travels to not only Disney but across the United States and internationally have allowed me to see and understand the importance of culture and representation within the Disney spectrum that I love and so I have made it my mission to make sure that diversity, inclusion and acceptance are put at the forefront at everything I do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I cannot say it was a smooth road for me, especially as a person of color in a fandom where the demographic is mostly white. When I first started out, I knew almost no other people of color who was in the fandom. It was very lonely and difficult to grow. But as the years have grown and my confidence, I have seen more and more people of color shining and thriving. I have unfortunately had to find my own footing and find my own authenticity and stride. Realizing that being myself will build a following took a long time, not to mention overcoming the racist undertones and being taken seriously as a creator, a battle I still undergo today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My full-time gig is being a nanny, which I love as I have been in childcare for over five years now. On the side, I am a contributor and social media manager for theme park hipster, a black-owned theme park travel site that specializes in solo travel. I am also a travel agent that specializes in Disney, universal, seaworld, cruises and international destinations.

I would say I am known for my witty and comedic commentary, ambition, hard work ethics, range when it comes to trying new things, and for being an advocate for diversity, inclusion and for mental health advocacy and awareness. I am the most proud of personally everything I have overcome personally and professionally to be where I am today. I have overcome my own mental health issues to be where I am today. I am also proud to be one of the top 50 black Disney influencers to follow as per popsugar.com. I am ultimately proud to be a black woman with positive influence who isn’t afraid to use their voice for the greater good within a fandom dominated by white men.
