Life & Work with Victorious McLeod

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victorious McLeod.

Hi Victorious, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion for filmmaking started in traditional art. I have always drawn myself, first in crayons, then in paint, and now I’ve progressed into what I consider the ultimate medium. What I consider my advantages have always been considered disadvantages as far as standardized education. Only recently, I’ve come to believe that a jack of all trades is a master of none, but definitely better than a master of one.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Orlando is only receptive to one kind of art, presented in many different ways. I believe Orlando’s design orientation when concerned with Aesthetics is a hinderance to artists that live in the representation of reality. There’s no industry in Orlando, and even less mentors to learn skills and leadership from. It’s taken me a while to learn to be my own teacher.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Visual Artist, Writer, and Independent Filmmaker. My most recent film is about a Creative black child as he learns to use creativity to develop his own self-value. My visual art, writing, and films are all centered on myself in some way, as a way to use my personal experiences to create universal narratives.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think that my ability to network has contributed to my success so far. The greatest of works are collaborative, which is why I wanted to branch out from Visual Arts, which can be a lonely practice.
