Today we’d like to introduce you to Vin Thomas.
Hi Vin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Wolfsplitter was founded by local Floridian and guitarist, Vin Thomas. Vin has been a live and studio musician in the local Orlando heavy music scene since 2014 and sought out to create a new project to further develop his creative endeavors as an outlet for wellness. After leaving his previous band to pursue higher education and a career in medicine, he longed to reintroduce a creative outlet in his life for a better work-life balance. He knew he wanted to return to the stage and dive back into his first passion prior to medicine – hard rock and heavy metal. Recruiting life long friend Mason David on bass guitar and previous band mate Kent Lefebvre on vocals, Wolfsplitter began their search to fulfill the rest of the lineup. They were shortly later joined by Billy Bierlein (Guitars) and Felix OB (drums). Wolfsplitter is on track to independently release their first single “The Snake Shaman” in 2025.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As is the usual plight of starting a new project, finding reliable musicians to participate and dedicate themselves to the creation of the band has been troublesome. Namely with finding drummers is the area that are not only reliable, but who are talented and willing to contribute in a meaningful way. We have had several drummers along the way and none of them stuck it out until now thanks to Felix. Creating a band is not only just about getting a group of people in a room, but getting a group of people the work well with each other is the key to a successful relationship. Furthermore, the financial burden of creating a quality product as an independent artist that can compete with any commercial artist out there without any financial backing is also quite the challenge.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Founded in 2023, in Orlando FL, Wolfsplitter features music that takes influence from several subgenres of heavy music including thrash, heavy metal, and modern rock. The music of Wolfsplitter consists of soaring vocals, classic guitar riffs with heavy transitions and face melting solos, pronounced bass lines, and aggressive but groovy drums.
Wolfsplitter’s lineup includes Kent Lefebvre (ex-Leaving Haven, ex-Arakara) on vocals, Vin Thomas (Nocturnal Dawn, ex-Arakara) and Billy Bierlein on guitars, Mason David on Bass, and Felix OB (Three Knuckles Deep) on drums.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
We would like to extend gratitude to our current studio producer, Barton Hill (AV Aces), and our live sound engineer Rene Morales (TSM Studios, AV Aces). We would also like to thank our families and anyone else who has been supportive of our music and our passion for performance. Special thanks to Jake Dreyer (Witherfall, ex-Iced Earth) for his support and getting us in touch with our studio drummer for this upcoming EP, Marcus Lee (Kobra and the Lotus). Last but not least, we give thanks to Marcus himself for recording drums for this EP as we could not have done it without him.
