Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Bristol.
Hi Whitney, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Everyone knows me as Whitney Nichole. My aunt knew I would be something magical when I got older. I was thinking more of a unicorn or a fairy but instead, I was a talker. And when I say talker, I mean I would endlessly makeup shows out of nowhere, have a full-time Broadway show in the living room, commentate football games (even though I had no idea what was happening) so at the age of eight, they purchased me my first JVC Camcorder. It wasn’t anything fancy, but to me my life was upgraded in so many ways.
From that moment, I agreed with them that talking was my passion. I was born and raised in Orlando, FL where I was active in every extra-curricular activity, church programs or community event that you can think of. I idolized Vanessa Echols, a television journalist at WFTV in Orlando. I was granted the opportunity to spend a day with her, and from that day, I said that I too would be a great media mogul.
After high school, I tried to convince myself that college wasn’t for me, I thought about being a chef, going to cosmetology school, as crazy as that may seem buttttt I couldn’t get Oprah out of my mind so I decided to go to school. I received my BS in Broadcast Journalism from Florida A&M University (FAMU) and my MA in Public Relations from Full Sail University.
Right out of undergrad, I just knew I couldn’t go back home to Orlando. That would be too easy for my mom to aggravate me daily, so I migrated to Atlanta and began working for a roofing company. I know many of you might think a roofing company lol but I wasn’t walking on the roof just yet. Everyone would quickly find out that idea is really as dangerous as it sounds. I served as their Social Media and Marketing Manager. I managed all social media platforms, wrote press releases and created video content for web. Fun stuff right! But I wanted more, so I thought, what would Oprah do.
So while working at the roofing companies, I started what millennials would call it a side hustle. I created my own media company, where I established great relationships in the entertainment industry and that was super fun. Although it was great exposure, it just quite wasn’t Oprah level yet…

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In life, you’re given lemons and at the time, I wasn’t able to build a stand. So after year three in Atlanta, I had to move back to Orlando due to the passing of my grandma and aunt who raised me. My mom called and said I know you don’t want to hear this but you’ve been gone since 2009 so I need you…
Although I wanted to tell her no I couldn’t. So I moved back to Orlando for two years and I could not take it anymore. Everyone thinks that Orlando is fun and games and Disney world but for me, it was a place of familiarity and comfort. I was always told when you feel comfortable, you’re not doing enough. There was a dark period in my life where I felt like I lost everything, I wasn’t interviewing artists, did not have a job and things went left, but I did not lose hope.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
