Life & Work with Zach Glaros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Glaros.

Hi Zach, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing Halloween displays as a child at my parent’s house. As I grew older, the displays grew in scale as well. Eventually, they got extremely elaborate and we were drawing hundreds of trick or treaters every Halloween. By this time, my passion for creating sets and Halloween was cemented.

After college, my dad and I discussed the opportunity of doing what we had done at their house on a larger scale. In 2014 we opened up our first season of Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail with one stand alone walking trail through our family’s property in Plant City, FL. Our beginnings were very small and very simplistic but we stayed true to our ability to entertain and provide guests with an intimate experience.

For the past eight seasons, we have poured everything we have into building Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail into what it is today. We now feature three haunted trails, a laser tag game and an escape game. Food vendors and light shows can be found in our courtyard area. Larger than life sets that you will not find anywhere else separate us from other events. At the end of everything, it all comes back to our title character, Sir Henry, and how everything is built around his story. The name ‘Sir Henry’ is taken from the street I grew up on doing Halloween displays during my childhood.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely been a grind. But having positive feedback from guests from the very beginning has kept us going through the tough times. Weather, economic situations, learning how to do a myriad of tasks, and surrounding ourselves with passionate individuals have all been some of the hardest parts of the journey. But here we are at season 8 ready to give our fans our best show yet!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am passionate about creating. I have a very unique style and love for Halloween that is rooted in a traditional New England style of fall/Halloween. This is what I try to bring to life at our event.

I have a background in advertising and marketing. But I also have skills that include drawing, painting, music, film editing, set and lighting design and an acting background. A combination of both formal education and self-taught has allowed me to bring all of these skills together to be utilized at our event.

I am most proud of creating an event and characters that people can enjoy and fall in love with. To me, it shows that I have created something they can connect with and distract them from everyday pains of life.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think it is best to surround yourself with other like minds in your industry. Their knowledge and experience is priceless. You can learn a lot from them.
