Today we’d like to introduce you to Worthy Cakes and Supplies.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Worthy Cakes started as a family business over 13 years ago. We baked and sold and continue to sell our goods at the local farmer’s markets, Winter Garden Farmers Market, Orlando Farmers Market at Lake Eola, and Winter Park Farmers Market. As we begin to realize that there was a demand for our baking and custom cakes, we expanded into a Brick and Mortar store in the Winter Garden area.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We wish we could tell you that this was an easy journey, but it was not. We invested a lot of money in our venture only to make a few bad decisions that caused us to lose a lot of money. We basically started from scratch to rebuild our finances and our self-confidence in our product. When family tells you to just let it go and give up, the determination to continue just grows, During this rebuilding process, we expanded our services to not only our famous cake in a jar and custom cakes but baking for all diets, Keto Sugar-Free and Vegan Gluten-Free. We also began to sell supplies to the local Bakers and Treat Makers.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Asha Worthy-Robinson is the owner-operator of Worthy Cakes and Supplies. She is a self-taught Cake Artist with a natural gift for baking and designing. Grace Worthy is our General Manager and Master Baker, She comes with over 30 years of customer service management experience, which helps to ensure that our customers leave with an excellent customer care experience and a great product. Annette Worthy comes from a background in customer service and a self-taught treat maker. We call her our Icing on the Cake expert. Her talents complement our custom cakes with all types of unique treats.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
We wish someone would have told us to first start out at the Farmers Markets. We started out at our local malls which left us in a financial challenge. We allowed the Mall Management to pump us up with visions of sell-outs while charging us over $5,000 a month for rent. We then started the Farmers Markets, paying less than $40 a day for space, this allowed us to get back on our feet very quickly and our local community continually buy us out to this day every week. Malls are for clothes and tennis shoes, not for our product.
