Hi Airess, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hey hey! I’m Airess—a blogger, full-time tech professional, self-proclaimed introverted socialite, and an interior design enthusiast. My journey into tech wasn’t exactly a straight shot. I started in design and construction project management, but in 2019, I decided I wanted something different. I wanted to level up my lifestyle and have a career that could help me stretch my intellect. I had my PMP certification which definitely gave me a leg up, but breaking into tech with zero tech experience? Yeah… not as easy as they make it sound.
That’s when AJ Design-Tech was born, and along with it, The Nerd Bae. I started AJ Design-Tech as a way to gain legit hands-on experience, build a portfolio, and prove my skills in tech and project management. But I also knew I wasn’t the only Millennial or Gen Z woman trying to pivot careers without a clear roadmap or solid experience. That’s where The Nerd Bae came in—a platform designed and built by me dedicated to helping women navigate career transitions while also diving into dating, planning hacks, and curating a luxury lifestyle. Because thriving isn’t just about work; it’s about designing a life that feels as good as it looks.
In the process of building The Nerd Bae, I dove deep into WordPress.org , figuring out how to navigate digital tools, learning all the tech jargon, and basically teaching myself how to build and manage an online brand from scratch. That hands-on learning made my transition into tech on the corporate level feel a little less intimidating.
My first official role in the industry was all about building a Project Management Office (PMO) from the ground up. That’s where I really got into Smartsheet—learning how to use it, develop solutions, and optimize workflows to make project management seamless. That experience set the foundation for my career in software product management, implementation and business transformation. Now, I get to merge my love for tech, strategy, and creativity in everything I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! The road has been anything but smooth—but I’ve never been one to shy away from a challenge. When it comes to my career, I’m a risk-taker. If something looks difficult or out of reach, that’s exactly what makes me want to go after it.
One of the biggest struggles for me wasn’t about if I could do something—it was having the patience to let things unfold. My parents have always instilled a deep confidence in me, so I’ve never been afraid to go after what I want. The hard part was picking a lane and trusting the process. I didn’t land my first tech role until two years into my journey, and I didn’t start earning from The Nerd Bae until three years in. That took extreme patience and faith. There were moments when it felt like nothing was moving, but I had to remind myself that if I stayed the course and kept putting in the work, it would pay off—and eventually, it did. But smooth? Not even close.

You focus on the big picture, while I handle the details—streamlining workflows and making sure everything runs smoothly, from kickoff to closeout.
I also design, develop, and maintain Smartsheet systems that will make your life easier—streamlining messy workflows and building work management solutions that keep your business running like a well-oiled machine. No more confusion; just efficiency.
Content Management: Keeping your WordPress content neat and organized is my specialty. I’ll ensure everything is properly tagged, categorized, and exactly where it needs to be, eliminating any lost blog posts or cluttered archives. I optimize your content using SEMrush to make sure Google knows you exist, driving the right people straight to your site. I craft compelling stories that elevate your brand’s voice, creating a narrative that resonates and drives engagement.
I’m most proud of The Nerd Bae, the platform I built that ultimately shaped my career. Teaching myself content management, SEO, and digital marketing not only allowed me to grow The Nerd Bae into a recognized brand but also acted as the vehicle that stretched my mind and helped me walk boldly into the tech industry. It played a key role in helping me land my first tech role, while also allowing me to contribute to businesses like Women of Project Management in expanding their reach through blogging and storytelling. What started as a personal endeavor has evolved into a business that blends my corporate expertise with creative strategy. However, having the ability to connect with so many people—both men and women—across the country and around the world who find value in The Nerd Bae as they navigate their own careers has been the most rewarding part of this journey.
