Meet Alejandro Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Lopez.

Hi Alejandro, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am 22 years old, born in New Jersey living in Winter Park, Florida. I went to Aveda institute Orlando and got licensed and went straight into the salon I’m at now, braiding was something I always wanted to learn but never knew it would be such a huge part of my life now got my 18th birthday I asked my mom to buy me a wig to braid and practice on and that’s how it all started and I started creating looks that where different and unique that I would then post on Instagram eventually my work started getting noticed and it took a life on it’s on three years later braiding is still a huge part of my life as I how incorporate unconventional material and color into my work to create unique and eye-catching art that pushes the boundaries of what we can do with hair.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing in life is ever smooth but I was working at a dead-end job that was interfering with my passion and what I really wanted to do so I left that job to focus on becoming a hairstylist. I’ve devoted my life to hair and creating art. I’ve spent many nights working on something till 4 in the morning to then only get 4 hours of sleep to wake up early, get photos of my creation before starting my day at the salon being on my feet for ten plus hours. Many long nights at the salon etc but that is my passion this is my life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hairdresser that specializes in vivid color and intricate braiding. I’m known for my intricate braiding in the industry although of been putting out a lot of colorwork as well to show that I’m more than just a braider; I love vivid color as well. I’m most proud of my work for braiding and how I’m incorporating color into my braiding and I think my work will be here long after I’m gone.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think taking risks is important it keeps you from staying in a box and it is also a lesson either good or bad but it’s valuable information that can guide you to further endeavors. When I decided to leave my job that was a risk for me although it was working at a fast food place I was only 18 and it was the only job I ever knew I was there for two years so leaving at the time was very scary and I was scared I was making a mistake but I can now look back and see that I made the right decision because if I had my carrier for hair would of been pushed back. Also, just creating and taking risks with that can also be scary. Hoping that it does well etc.
