Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Gonzalez and Monica Plazas.
Hi Alejandro and Monica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Our story begins with a dream and an entrepreneurial spirit that Monica and I shared from the time we met 3.5 years ago. From there, two years ago, Sagalu Fashion was born. Independence, growth, pride, freedom, LOVE for TRAVEL and many others are the qualities that Monica and I realized that we shared from the time we met 3.5 years ago. Ever since week one, traveling has been the go-to resource to keep our relationship alive and our lives and hearts beating to a synchronized rhythm of joy and love. On the other hand, our brains were constantly on a quest to find that perfectly matched business venture that would allow us to live the life we wanted while doing what we loved and still afford us a sound financial retirement. It was in one of our trips, the time we went to Puerto Rico, that all the stars aligned, and life laid in front of us all the ingredients that we were looking for, which helped us realize that we both had a past in the swimwear world and that the passion was still there. Fast forward many other trips and adventures and it was like with every trip, we would discover new signs and or ideas which have helped shape our business to what it is today. We can definitely and accurately say that our travels have fueled our desire to succeed and our business model.
The road to where we are today has not been easy; it has meant putting in a lot of unpaid hours and personal financial investments. Although we had some experience in the past, we started this business from cero. The one thing we knew for sure was that we wanted to offer our “Sagalu Lovers,” the best possible quality swimwear with chic, trendy designs and, most importantly, at affordable prices. Once all these requirements were put on the table to accomplish, we concluded that manufacturing our products with fabrics made in Colombia; South America, was going to be the best possible avenue for us to take. Colombian fabrics are worldly renowned for their exceptional quality and allure. To date, that decision has proven to be one of the reasons why our customers love what we do. Why we named it SAGALU? It is the first two letters of our three daughters, Sara, Gabriela and Luciana.
Fast forward to today and having accomplished our initial goal of offering amazing quality swimwear and our vision was expanded again through more travel. Sagalu now offers cover-ups, unique shoes, purses and our recently release sportswear line called Fit by Sagalu Fashion. Side note… new products coming soon. 😊
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We are very thankful that, for the most part, it has been a pretty smooth road. I would say that some of the struggles that we have encountered have been the common ones like: Financial hardships. Juggling main jobs, family and new venture. Learning new social media and marketing avenues that we were not familiar with.

We are a company which specializes in quality swimwear, resort wear, sportswear shoes and purses for today’s trendy oriented clientele.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
With the new trend of more people wanting to be independent, we see more and more new brands and a very competitive era, which will mean staying on our toes to be able to continue to succeed. With this said, we need to make sure to continue offering great quality products and trendy designs.
