Meet Alexandrea Dendy of Sunflower Bookkeeping

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandrea Dendy.

Hi Alexandrea, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Lithonia, Georgia. While I have fond memories of family summer vacations and sharing the love for cheerleading with my sister, I also carry the weight of losing my sister and father three years and one day apart. With the support of my mom and our village, I was able to cope and turn the losses into my drive to succeed. Making them proud is my main motivation in life.

From the beginning, I have always had a desire to be a model. I remember being in 5th grade having to choose a career to put on a sign to wear for graduation. Of course, there were many doctors, lawyer, and astronaut signs, but my sign said “Model”. It wasn’t until moving to Orlando after college that I was able to get my feet wet. I have enjoyed being a model and through the passion, my interest in entrepreneurship was sparked.

While in college, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, minoring in both Spanish and Business. I learned a lot in my psychology courses, but my love for math outweighed my desire to pursue a career in Psychology. After graduation, I was able to acquire a position as an Accountant while still pursuing my passion to model. I have recently received my Certified Public Bookkeeper’s license and plan to open a virtual bookkeeping company in the next month.

Long story short, my thrive for excellence and curiosity to chase every passion is how I got to where I am today. I can’t wait to see how much farther it takes me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth, but rarely do you hear a story that is. When it comes to modeling, there is a set industry standard of what a typical model looks like. There’s an ideal height, body size, etc., most of which I don’t typically fit. Instead of allowing that to hold me back, I worked harder at my craft to try and stand out to gain more opportunities. I am super grateful to the photographers and brands that continue to show support and to the magazines that have featured my work. The ten years old in me is truly fangirling when I think about how much I have accomplished in this industry. I hope that my story allows young women to know that even if they may not fit society’s standards, hard work and dedication will break down so many doors. Believe in yourself, no one can take that from you.

Another challenge I have come across has been time management. Currently, I am balancing a full-time career on top of four passion ventures. A lot of times this can become overwhelming, but over time I have been able to try sticking to a routine and make sure I rest when I feel like I am reaching a point of burnout.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sunflower Bookkeeping LLC?
I am currently in the works of launching my virtual bookkeeping company, Sunflower Bookkeeping LLC. Many business owners find themselves lacking the time to keep accurate financials while trying to provide top-tier customer service. Being a remote-based company, we are able to provide services nationwide with the use of Quickbooks Online and Google Drive. Sunflower Bookkeeping allows our clients to focus on their passion while we handle the record keeping. Stay tuned for a December 11th launch, what better way to turn 25!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite book recommendation is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. As someone who lives for finding my purpose in life, this book is a timeless read reminding us to follow our heart’s desires no matter what stage of life we are in.
