Meet Alexis Jennings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Jennings.

Hi Alexis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I’ve always wanted to be in the healthcare field initially. I wanted to go to school for physical therapy, but at that time it was difficult to grasp the auditorium-style classes when I needed more one-on-one attention to get me through those science classes, so I took the admin route.

I got my HSA degree in 2019 from UCF and since then, I’ve tried to move up the corporate latter, making some strides but ultimately – I got tired of fighting a tiresome fight- so I began to get burnt out and restless working from home.

I needed something new, and it was like a light bulb went off. Massage therapy, it was perfect for me at this time of my life, I could say I tried everything I could to make the life I thought I needed, and now try to do something that makes me happy and makes me feel like I make a difference.

I’m pretty spontaneous so this decision all happened within a week and a half, I signed away my life for the next 9.5 months, worked sometimes three jobs at once to go to school full time- even on Saturdays to get through. I ended up graduating early.

It’s opened up a lot of different avenues I never thought I’d explore and for that, I’m grateful and hopeful for the future.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was difficult at times because I sacrificed a lot of time and sleep, working multiple jobs- sometimes having to go from school, clock in at home to work, and then go to my night job.

However, it was smooth in the sense of how easy it was for me to connect to massage and the happiness it brings me to know I’ve made someone’s day better or fixed that stiff neck they’ve had.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Right now, I’m building my clientele to perform my massage experiences on, I like to say experience because this isn’t just a robotic sequence I’ve practiced, I like to listen to the body and do the work it needs. I also offer a blend of specially chosen “thera-butters” I call it, it’s aroma therapy body butter that can be used during the massage to help you on your journey. I am most proud of being able to stick this through and know every day I’m committing to at least trying to give this new lifestyle a try! Motivation and ambition probably is a the biggest contributor to what sets me apart, a lot of people can come up great ideas but not many will actually stick it out, and fewer are willing to keep pushing even when the sacrifice might not seem worth it at the time.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Funny enough I believe post-Covid-19 actually had a bigger impact. I actually enjoyed the lockdown and complied, but the way the world changed after people had been locked up, showed me that we never know what internal battle peoples deal with within themselves and it’s important to take a second to learn ourselves.
