Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Bruton.
Alisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My photography journey started out in a very typical way, but has grown into something so amazing, and I am so proud of where I am now. After my son was born, I became extremely passionate about taking pictures to preserve all of those adorable first milestones and documenting how quickly he was growing. After the storage on my phone quickly reached capacity, it was time to invest in a camera! My husband gifted me my first camera for my first Mother’s Day! Many of the first images I took were of my son, but also of the flowers and nature out in my own backyard. Photography really allowed me to slow down, appreciate all of the beauty around me, and really observe and live in the moment. Somewhere along that first year, it became evident that photography was my passion. It was my purpose and my calling that I had been searching for, and I wanted to pursue it more than just a hobby. Friends and family began asking me to take photographs of their families and it has really grown from there.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A photographer’s journey is definitely not smooth, Well mine certainly wasn’t. It takes a lot of time to learn and practice your craft. Also, working on trying to find your own style, and sharing your artistic work with the world brings a whole new side of vulnerability. For me though, my husband, friends and family have all been huge supporters of my work. Their encouragement always gives me the courage to keep pushing and putting myself out there.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Professionally, I am a natural light photographer specializing in weddings, portraits and families. For fun, I love to photograph flowers, nature, and my son, Asher. I really enjoy getting creative with my photographs to give artistic compositions that capture real and authentic emotions. Since recently moving from Michigan to Florida, I have really enjoyed exploring all the different and beautiful natural elements this state offers. My favorites being beaches, tropical springs, and parks full of flowers and using them to tell a story through my lens.
This past week was one of my biggest accomplishments to date as a professional photographer. Not only was I able to be a photographer at one Disney wedding, but I was able to photograph two of these beautiful weddings in the same week! An absolute dream!
Within this same week, I also had a photograph I took of my son selected and published in an international photography magazine. I am absolutely blessed to be achieving these dreams so early on in my career, and it excites me for what the future holds.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I have found that having mentors in the photography business and also taking educational photography courses has really benefited and helped me to grow as a photographer. Investing in myself and my education is extremely important to me, because it gives me the knowledge and ability to best serve my clients and their needs. Having a mentor has also helped to push me out of my comfort zones and allowed me to really hold myself accountable for setting and reaching new goals. It is also great to have a connection with others in the industry to bounce creative ideas off, share in technical conversations, network, work together and build friendships.
