Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Speight.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started finding interest in hair when I was in middle school! My mother worked full time and although she did a little something to my hair, I didn’t really get a chance to really go to a salon and experience what other people got to experience! When I started high school my 11th-grade year, I finally say my first beauty supply store and fell in love. My mom couldn’t really afford for me to go get my hair done so I started doing them on myself. And stared doing them on my friends.
When I got out of high school, I found out I was pregnant a month later and that’s when I started doing wigs (2011) I’ve became obsessed with it! I stopped for a few years and was afraid of doing what I really love! Until my kid’s father pushed me to go above and beyond and to finally get my name out there (2017) I left my job and boom, that weekend I was doing hair I met great clients that let me have my oops moment, which I’m very grateful from once in a blue moon having clients to know booked! From having no name to being known in Daytona for making bomb units!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t from messing up people hair trying to figure out how I’m going to pay for my bills for the month due to having no clients thinking maybe I should give up and look into something else making wigs too small, making wigs too big Hearing “oh she don’t know what’s she’s doing I’ll never recommend someone to her”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business name is glamhustle I make wigs do installed but I also make products for your hair and body scrubs.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I think me taking this risks was the BEST thing I’ve ever done! This has push me to finally be me love my hair and enjoy what I do if I never done it I would ALWAYS have the question of what if I tell people please live your life for you. Push what you love to do even when u see someone doing something that your doing it doesn’t matter!! People love going to Walmart but they will also love to go target!
