Today we’d like to introduce you to Ash Nikki.
Hi Ash, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Tales of Terror is an ever-evolving group of innovative artists and performers. We create highly immersive and gruesomely detailed horror-themed experiences with various original characters and storylines. We provide personalized performer interactions, sensory-sensitive effects modifications, and uniquely terrifying settings to produce some of the most accessible, memorable, and captivating spooky adventures in the Orlando area. Tales of Terror was founded amid the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and began with a holiday-themed home haunt. Our premiere event, Santa’s Slaughterhouse, included a full walkthrough, live entertainment, and photo opportunities. Since this initial production, we have accomplished much more – from our expanded Carnies of Devil’s Bayou maze to our nightlife-inspired Club Carnage, a “Halfway to Halloween” event at Manikins Lounge. Our largest pro events are “Wasteland” in October 2022, Santas’ Summoning in December 2022, New Fear Before the New Year in December 2022, and Leprechauns’ Curse in March 2023. We are so excited to be able to show you our two DOUBLE FEATURE rails this year at the Central Florida Fairgrounds. We have partnered with Neverending Nightmare, and they will present a trial called “TORMENTED: Curse of the Bayou,” and Tales of Terror will present: GENOCORP(SE): WE CARE ABOUT EVERYBODY!
This year’s show will include two trails and live entertainment, full bars, and fair food trucks. In our projects, Tales of Terror strives to provide highly realistic and immersive horror experiences using personalized performer interactions and detailed environments. When visiting one of our haunted events, expect improvised conversations with our actors, modified effects for sensory-sensitive guests (when available upon request), and individual attention from our cast and crew. Accessibility, actor-driven encounters, and total story immersion are our passions, and no two trips through Tales of Terror are exactly alike. Enter if you dare!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everything we create is built and funded out of pocket by one founder, who wants to create a safe and fun environment for friends to express and perform in a way that suits their needs and vision. A large contribution to our growth is also by donations from friends and crew who believe in what we do and have to offer.
Our “vision” as a whole, with that in mind, keeps everyone involved as much as possible and encourages creative freedom to make sure everyone feels included and a part of the “magic” bringing our haunt to life. We want to continue to grow and thrive in this industry and be successful.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with what you do?
What sets us apart from the others here in FL? We don’t cater to the norms when it comes to haunted attractions. We will be as gorey, weird, and eccentric as we want! We encourage creative freedom, adlib, and contributions to the haunt as a whole from the entire crew. We cater to attention to detail for every individual, from costumes to makeup, set designs, and more. Why have a haunt if no one is having fun? We want to hear your ideas!
Another key factor: nothing cheesy here. The only cheese you’ll get from us is some funky cheese-like substance Momma might try to feed you when you come through our trail. Momma and Loralei are known for their strange antics regarding food and even bugs. We offer the rated R hands-on upgrades, but we also provide the Freak’d Up! Experience (lovingly named by Freaks of HHN) where it is not only high intensity, but you will get wet with blood, water, and who knows what else!
How do you think about luck?
Good luck? Meeting incredible people who see us and see what we are capable of! The Central Florida Fairgrounds has seen it and has offered us multiple positions to be involved with their location, including being involved at their main fair next year in 2024, From February 29, 2024- March 10, 2024. Can you imagine going to a traditional fair, with rides, food, and games, then walking over to Bizarre Boulevard and experiencing Halloween, off-season, at the fair? Well, that is what we will be doing! We will have a haunted house, sideshow performers, an oddities market, Sinister X Sisters, chainsaw jugglers, sliders, and more!
