Meet Brandon Olmo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Olmo.

Hi Brandon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
“What’s up, my name is Brandon. I’m 30 yrs old. And I’m a small business owner. Founder of “CreativApparel” my very own clothing brand…..

I grew up in The Bronx, New York. I always walked around with a video camera. I’d love to record and edit. I’ve always been creative as a child. Christmas gifts from my parents would always consist of some type of art supplies or electronics. I’ve always went above and beyond in my art classes in school. So after years or dipping into different creative aspects (photography, music, video editing, drawing, etc.) it hit me that I can incorporate EVERYTHING I was good at into clothing. This was the start of CreativApparel.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road at all. At first, it was. The excitement of first starting and everything being so new kept that drive going. People were supportive. But as time passed, I’d get less sales. I won’t blame it on anyone but myself. The drop in sales sometimes discouraged me and I’d take a little break and get lazy. This takes a lot of self-discipline.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make shirts that will help people express themselves openly. Kinda similar to wearing your heart on your sleeve. Most of my designs are loved because they have meaning behind them Or because there’s a bit of humor within them. I am most proud of my “Black Lives Matter” collection because it was another way to get others to listen. No matter how hard they tried avoiding the events going on in the world. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t have a filter. I don’t allow anything or anyone to put a block on my vision. I don’t care if something is a popular opinion I will stick to who I am wholeheartedly and will always let that fearless energy show in my work.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
To be honest, I’m still figuring that out. I won’t lie I have been down bad. I hit a point where I’ve just stopped creating for some time. But I have never given up. I talk to myself and evaluate myself. I realize my faults and bad habits and make efforts to climb out of this pit I’m in. I’ve been slowly but surely working on a huge collection for my brand that I have so much faith in. So what I feel is most important is strength. Strength to keep going. Don’t ever stop completely. Always get back to work and find motivation within your own work as opposed to waiting for it to come through others.
