Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Holland
Hi Breanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started with a passion for storytelling. I’ve always loved capturing moments, whether through words or a camera. During my master’s program in journalism, I created “Becoming Varsity” as part of my capstone, following a high school dance team through their season. What started as a school assignment unexpectedly gained traction online. Soon after, real teams reached out, asking if I was available for work.
After graduating in 2022 and struggling to find a job in sports journalism, I made the decision to turn “Becoming Varsity” into an LLC. I decided to take a chance on myself. Fast forward to now, I’ve worked with over 150 teams worldwide. What started as a capstone project has grown into a successful business. Today, I’m continuing to build on that momentum, taking on new challenges and opportunities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but I think that’s true for most people who take a chance on themselves. Building “Becoming Varsity” was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken. When I first started, I had no roadmap, just a passion for telling stories through sports and a desire to make an impact. Working with over 150 teams around the world has been an incredible honor, but none of it came without its challenges. Every step, from creating my business to expanding internationally, has been filled with learning curves and moments where I had to trust my instincts, even when the future seemed unclear.
Being in the sports media industry, especially as a woman, has its own set of obstacles. There are times when I’ve felt like I needed to prove myself more than my male counterparts, navigating a space where women often have to fight harder to be seen as equals. But I’ve learned to use those moments as fuel to push forward, knowing that my value is in my work and my ability to capture the raw, authentic moments of teams and athletes at their best and their most vulnerable. It’s not just about creating content; it’s about creating something meaningful that resonates with those I work with.
At the end of the day, the struggles have shaped me into a more resilient and adaptable business owner. Each challenge, whether logistical, creative, or personal, has made me more confident in my abilities and my direction. I’m proud of what “Becoming Varsity” represents, not just as a business, but as a testament to the belief that when you take a risk and bet on yourself, the results can be extraordinary.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Becoming Varsity is a sports media production company dedicated to showcasing athletes and performers through media day content and event coverage.
Our edge lies in our commitment to authenticity and storytelling. We capture real moments that convey our clients’ stories, delivering media that is both impactful and skillfully produced.
Our event coverage focuses on highlighting genuine moments. We take pride in capturing those unseen or forgotten instances and are thrilled to be a part of it.
Each project reflects our passion for showcasing what makes our clients unique. We aim to create media that amplifies our client/team’s message and provides their audience with something they will want to revisit repeatedly.
What’s next?
I’m excited for the upcoming dance and cheer season, with plenty of events already lined up in the greater Orlando area and across the country. There aren’t any big changes right now, but I’m looking forward to working with some new clients and teams this season.
