Today we’d like to introduce you to Briyanna Bradford
Hi Briyanna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey is one of blending passion with purpose. Since I was a little girl, I have always enjoyed doing hair and experimenting with makeup and other beauty products. However, I have multiple passions and areas I was deeply interested in. I’m currently a law student, and as many know, balancing studies with financial needs can be a challenge. I started my hair braiding business initially to help support myself through school, but it quickly became more than just a way to earn income. Braiding is something I genuinely enjoy; it’s a relaxing and creative outlet that lets me step away from the intensity of law school and reconnect with my artistic side. Having this business gives me a sense of balance—letting me both pursue my legal aspirations and stay connected to a personal passion. It’s been rewarding to build something that’s both practical and fulfilling!
I’m a self-taught braider, and my journey started much like many stylists: experimenting with my own hair and exploring different styles and techniques. At first, it was just for fun, but I quickly realized how much I enjoyed the artistry of it. Soon, I began practicing on family and friends who, thankfully, were willing to let me experiment and improve. Little by little, I honed my craft, watching tutorials, learning new techniques, and practicing constantly, I became better and better at what I do.
About four years ago, I got my first paying client—a referral from someone I’d practiced on. That first step into professional work was both exciting and nerve-wracking, but it solidified my commitment to perfecting my skills. Fast forward to now, and I have a slowly growing flow of clients each month, which has been incredibly rewarding both personally and financially. I am now in my final year of law school getting ready to graduate and I am excited to continue to watch Bris Braid Room flourish and grow.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I have definitely encountered a number of obstacles including having little to no clientele when I first moved to Orlando and having to reestablish an online and in person presence. I went months without picking up a comb when I first moved.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My hair braiding business specializes in knotless braids, though I also offer twists and loc styles on request. What sets me apart is my commitment to providing a truly comfortable and welcoming experience for everyone who sits in my chair. It’s no secret that professionalism can sometimes be a challenge in the braiding industry, and I’ve made it my top priority to shift that narrative for my buisness and clients. I create a warm, professional environment where clients feel valued and relaxed during their appointments—because I believe you should be at ease, especially when you’re spending hours in the chair.
I go the extra mile to make the experience enjoyable by offering drinks, snacks, and customizing the space to meet each client’s needs. This dedication to comfort and service is what I’m known for and what I take pride in. Watching my business grow steadily and seeing my skills evolve has been incredibly rewarding. I want readers to know that with me, they’ll not only get high-quality braids but a truly personalized, caring experience that prioritizes their comfort every step of the way.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest piece of advice for new braiders is simple: practice, practice, practice! It’s so important to spend time perfecting your technique. The more you practice, the better and more confident you’ll become. Start with your own hair, and then reach out to friends and family who’ll let you work on different textures and styles. Each client or practice session is an opportunity to learn something new. And try your hardest not to compare yourself or become discouraged.
