Meet Carly Casella of Saint Augustine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Casella.

Hi Carly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am currently 20 years old and started taking clients about 4 years ago when I was just 16. I have always loved photography, so I carried a little barbie camera around when I was younger. When I saved up enough money from working at Publix and babysitting, I bought my first “big girl” camera and immediately started doing photoshoots with my friends. That is when I knew photography would play a big role in my life. Just friends turned into friends of friends. The next thing I knew, I was shooting sessions like engagements, maternity (becoming an obsession), seniors, and even weddings (my favorite events to capture)! Before I knew it, I was waitressing and saving up as much as possible to get this dream of mine up and going, and while that is still an ongoing process, I cannot express how lucky I feel to be where I am today.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have faced some struggles. I find myself not being taken seriously because I am so young. I have lost multiple clients when they find out my age. It could have been a smoother road. However, many people don’t mind, and those people have made me the photographer I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in couples photography; this is what I am most comfortable doing. The thing that sets me apart from others is my welcoming personality. Almost all of my clients had told me how comfortable they felt with me and when we were done with their session, they knew they got pictures they would love forever. I’m proud of the emotions I can get out of people who aren’t even comfortable in front of a camera; that says a lot about who I am and my art.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I don’t think so; thank you for this opportunity!
