Meet Chelsea Miranda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Miranda.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Grand Rising! My name is Chelsea Miranda, founder of Sexy in Stilettos and director of The Sirens of SIS dance team. I grew up with a great appreciation for music and dance, and around the age of nine, I expressed to my parents I wanted to start dance lessons. They handed me an intimidatingly large book of yellow pages and told me to start calling schools to find one to enroll in. I genuinely loved preparing my short dialogue and calling around to find who offered the styles I wanted to train in, had the most accommodating times, and of course, offered a tuition my parents could stand behind. I had to put in the effort if I wanted the reward. I believe it is these moments of self-sufficiency encouraged by my parents which led to my entrepreneurial spirit and made the reward of dance that much sweeter. I had somewhat of a tumultuous college and early adult life, barely graduating and putting alcohol at the top of my priority list, even above my love for dance. Through many trials and errors and admittedly a few arrests, I finally hit a rock bottom and decided to search for a solution.

In 2018 I found a program of recovery that changed my life in ways unimaginable. Now clean and sober, I was able to look at life through a new lens and really tunnel vision on the plans I saw for myself. In February of 2019, I started SIS, an acronym for Sexy in Stilettos, where I taught heels dance classes to adults in Orlando. I wanted to create a space for more than just dance, however. A space that made me feel as safe and accepted as I did when I found sobriety. It was my vision to cultivate an environment for men and women to freely express themselves without fear of judgement. Two years into this venture and I am working as hard as I was on day one, always seeking expansion, innovation, and of course, inclusion. My most recent venture has been the addition of The Sirens of SIS, a dance team I planned while seven months pregnant, thinking I would be out of commission soon (I danced and taught until week 38 of pregnancy)! The Sirens rehearse weekly and train in various styles of dance, with heels as a priority. They perform around Orlando and have most recently put on a full heels showcase at the Abbey downtown (with another showcase on the way!) I am incredibly proud of the strides I have made these past two years with SIS and owe it to my higher power for keeping me sober. I don’t know specifics of what the future holds for SIS, but I plan to keep doing the work and allowing God to handle the outcomes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I would love to make Sexy in Stilettos my full-time career, but am accepting the patience and discipline associated with building a brand. When I am not doing all things dance, I work part-time as a server.

What makes you happy?
Being of service to others brings me the utmost joy. Not only is it great to help my peers, but it’s a constant reminder that the world doesn’t revolve around Chelsea. I also thoroughly enjoy gardening. I recently got to eat a pineapple that took me nearly three years to grow and it was worth every second spent in the ground! And of course, being a mommy to my baby girl Nori gives me a newfound sense of happiness. She’s six months old and the chunkiest delight of my life!
