Meet Christie Seraphin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christie Seraphin.

Hi Christie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started off really simple. I love hair. I love everything beauty. I was looking for an outlet to express myself and ran straight to Instagram! I figured I would do hair tutorials and vlog my natural hair journey since I had just experienced my big chop. I started my page and received a lot of feedback and all the signs pointed into the direction of styling hair. So, rather than vlogging about myself, I decided to vlog my journey learning how to make women feel empowered and beautiful – through the crown that they wear.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Things were good at the beginning, but then it felt like I hit a dead end. My clientele was stagnant, I received appointment inquiries but no actual bookings, I struggled to learn effective techniques, and then some. At one point, I spent long nights doing hair after work, went to sleep, and had to wake up in the next 5 hours to repeat the cycle, yet again… things were tough. This really took a toll on me because I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, deprived myself of sleep and leisure time to become a self-taught hairstylist… but it felt like it was in vain.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a self-taught hairstylist. I started off by specializing in natural hair services such as washes, treatments, and twist-outs. However, I quickly picked up on crowd favorites and began specializing in braids. I am constantly teaching myself new styles and adding them as services to offer. I am most proud of how much I have pushed myself in just TWO years! I have learned so much and KNOW that this journey is nowhere near the end. What sets me apart is the feeling of never being satisfied. Once I reach a goal, I aim for the next and so on and so forth. I will always be looking for ways to better myself and better my soon-to-be legacy!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My business was actually originated in Fort Myers, FL so I am new to Orlando, FL! So far, I am loving the diversity, nightlife and abundance in food options – I’m a total foodie. My least favorite thing, of course, is the traffic. It gets super congested and really quick, too.
