Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Matos.
Hi Claudia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my journey as a social worker nearly ten years ago. I always knew I wanted a career that involved helping others and after explored a couple options, I decided on Social Work. I attended UCF for my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and then pursued my license with the State of Florida. In my experience, I have worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, hospice, children, and most recently, therapy with all age groups. My interest in private practice truly peaked when the pandemic began. I was witnessing how my friends and family were suffering with this adjustment and knew I had to help.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being the first in my family to attend college made it a real struggle. It was difficult to navigate my way through the different systems in place and be able to seek guidance through my journey. Without that necessary guidance, I had to rely mainly on school advisors, professors, and classmates.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

My focus is to make your therapy experience comfortable. I understand how difficult it can be to finally make the decision to seek help and I pride myself in providing a safe, comfortable, and nonjudgmental environment. I will assist you in developing coping skills to help you face all the struggles and challenges in your life.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
If you are seeking a mentor, I suggest choosing someone you trust. It may be someone you previously worked with, an old boss or a prior colleague but it should be someone you are comfortable with. Prior to the pandemic, I found networking events in my area to be a great way to meet other professionals. There are also great local Facebook pages that can help you connect to other professionals and help with networking.
