Today we’d like to introduce you to Colin Shepardson.
Colin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Orlando, FL. Growing up I took part in numerous community activities like distributing meals with the coalition for the homeless and volunteering with best buddies in school at Lake Highland. I attended Auburn University and did several internships with the general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie building sites for Lockheed Martin and the Atlanta Braves. While working with B&G I spent time volunteering with Make a Wish helping families in the Atlanta area.
I learned a great deal through that work but ultimately went a different direction, I founded Robinhood Removal, a property cleanup business that offers services like junk and debris removal, home organizing as well as pressure washing, partnering with local charities, and giving back along the way. I started plenty of businesses as a kid and my first business out of college was a cleaning company in Nashville where I had a similar approach to helping the community. During my time running a business there, I learned a great deal and had the opportunity to help hundreds of families by furnishing homes, distributing clothes, and providing books and bikes to young kids in Nashville. After selling that business off I moved home where I plan to continue my efforts and grow my business in Orlando and in time, in communities all over the country. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would be lying if I said it has been a smooth road, good things never come easy. I’ve faced my fair share of difficult moments in my life but in the end, I’m better for having gone through them. Adversity builds character, it is a part of life, and the more you face it the more you learn how to deal with new challenges.
Like many people, I’ve dealt with bullies in school, heartbreak, financial issues, and other problems we all have to get through as human beings but in the end, those moments are what make me the man I am today. I’ve had business partners steal money from me, my trucks and businesses were broken into, and I’ve found myself working long hours for low pay like so many other Americans.
Through the community outreach initiatives, I have run I have encountered many people who need help in more ways than one. People who don’t know where their next meal may come from, how they will provide for their family, or how they will get treatment for physical or mental health issues they face. Unfortunately, I can’t always provide the help they may need. As a 25-year-old man, I still have so much to learn and I can only hope to grow and continue helping where I can.
We’ve been impressed with Robinhood Removal, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Robinhood Removal is Orlando’s only property cleanup business that partners with local charities to get reusable items to those in need. We use people’s unwanted items to furnish homes, provide clothing to shelters, and distribute books and bikes to young families. RR is more than just another junk removal company, we care for the community around us and want to develop a cleaner, more connected Orlando.
As of this week, I am most proud of our growth, it isn’t easy starting a business from scratch but I know that as long as our team maintains a strong work ethic and a good heart we will continue to grow more and more. Helping our customers and our community every day. My personal goal for the business is to establish new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle in order to keep Orlando city beautiful and lessen the pollution on our planet. You can see us donate and clean up the community through our Instagram @Robinhoodcares
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best is our diverse range of foods and activities, in my free time you can find me eating at one of the many amazing Asian restaurants on Mills Ave, swimming or paddle boarding in the chain of lakes in Winter Park, or out with friends in downtown Orlando. This city is so much more than just theme parks and even though I grew up here I still find myself discovering new spots all the time. Through my work I find myself driving all around Orlando each week and despite the mayhem of I-4 I enjoy exploring new areas and making friends all across the city’s beautiful
