Meet Corey Lang of The Bucket List Team

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Lang.

Corey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in New Hampshire where I spent the first 19 years of my life. This is when I decided to join the United States Army which started my 14 years of service as an Airborne Ranger. Throughout my tenure in the Army, I achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) and graduated from the following schools; Ranger School, Reconnaissance & Surveillance Leadership Course, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, and Combatives Level I.

I was fortunate enough to live in Italy for my first four years of the Army and from there I deployed to Iraq in 2003, returning in 2004, only to deploy again to Afghanistan in 2005 and returning in 2006. In my first three years in the Army, I was in combat for two of them. I deployed more time to Afghanistan in 2009 returning in 2010 which ended my combat rotations. My next journey took my most rewarding job in the Army as a Ranger Instructor at the United States Army Ranger School.

After 2-1/2 years and over 1500 students later, I went to South Korea for two years and lived right in the city of Seoul. I have a total of 45 jumps out of a perfectly good airplane. I ended up separating from service with an honorable discharge as a platoon Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Brigade and am currently a 100% Disabled Veteran.

I volunteered to be a Ranger signing on the dotted line fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession. With that said, I do not let “Disabled Veteran” define who I am to become as the next chapter of my life began. It was a rocky transition into civilian life. There is no amount of counseling or briefings during my exit transition period that could have truly prepared me for how bad I fell on my face after the military. I was out of the Army in August 2017 and by October 2017, I had to sleep in my truck for more than a few nights.

I did have 50/50 custody of my two oldest daughters and ended up losing the majority of timeshare to the mother due to my poor choices during that time frame. I attempted to wash away a lot of problems with alcohol which only made the already bad situations worse. It wasn’t until I truly looked myself in the mirror and made the decision that I was going to be the father I needed to be. I had to stop feeling sorry for myself, stop acting like citizens owed me for my sacrifices and by far the best decision I made was telling myself that I am no longer Sergeant First Class Lang.

This inward look at self-improvement really changed the trajectory of the following months. It actually led me to my current to be wife Gianni Bido, she was in Real Estate and I was installing solar panels. We met on a date at Lake Eola Park on Sept 25 2018 and have never separated since. She is my rock and has been there for me through every troubling time over the past 3-1/2 years. I earned my associate’s degree in December of 2019 and got my Real Estate license in January of 2020. Gia and I started The Bucket List Team at Keller Williams in March of 2020 and since then we have closed on almost $5,000,000 in volume in less than two years.

Also since joining Keller Williams in March of 2020 Gia has earned her Graduated Realtor Institute designation, Accredited Buyer Representative designation, Military Relocation Professional designation, and Real Estate Negotiation Expert designation. I have earned the Seller Representative Specialist designation and the Military Relocation Professional designation. Together, we also serve as coaches to new agents regarding contract quality control and compliance. Currently, I am enrolled as a student at the College of Business at The University of Central Florida in pursuit of my bachelor’s degree in Real Estate.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Mental Olympics are always a force to be reckoned with and the hardest thing to do is be easy on self with expectation management. Building a business while co-creating life is a struggle with a blended family, but that growth only comes from being in the situation I am in.

If you asked me if I would sign up for this before I would say no, but now that I am here executing I am realizing my true potential. My two ex-wives would cooperate together in hopes to tear me down, but my mental fortitude always prevailed by not entertaining the toxicity and staying the course.

Getting full custody of my 5-year-old daughter, while taking 5 classes at UCF, after just buying a house and still running a business was a dark time mentally for Gia and me because we were spread too thin. We communicated the difficulties and both acknowledged it cannot continue on the same trajectory making necessary changes to find the balance in life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
