Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Jacome.
Hi Crystal, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Connecticut my whole life and ventured my path to Florida in 2019 with the dream of becoming a journalist. I saw more opportunities here when it came to entering the world of Spanish journalism, through college I always kept my dream pinpointed to what I wanted, but during my time at Full Sail University in the Media Communications program I was molded into being a Swiss Army knife as one of my great former teachers would say. I completely dived into the world of media communications leaving with so much knowledge and avenues to create a business ranging from being an independent journalist, social media specialist, photographer/ videographer, and guess what else… a Real Estate Agent! Thus CrystalJacomeTV was born, and it holds every attribute I developed through my education and through the many opportunities that the universe has presented my way. Today I work doing all these different things, but just one of these titles has changed… I recently transitioned from being an independent journalist to being a multi-media journalist for a local TV station. I have been able to be on this journey with my biggest support system being my mother, who I sometimes call my momager. I am so excited to see where life will take me and everything I have left to learn!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road, but it wouldn’t be worth it if it was easy. After graduating in 2021 I struggled for almost 3 years looking for the experience I needed to embark on my journey as a journalist. I have always been so focused and so strict to the timeline I had envisioned for myself since being a junior in high school and never did it occur to me when I graduated college that it would take me so long to get started. It was the hardest two years of self-doubt and frustration with myself and with certain situations that life threw my way that I felt in that moment were holding me back. With time I started accepting the fact that what is meant to be will happen when it is set to happen and it may not always be when we want it to happen. It took me a long time to accept that but when I started to let go of that frustration and self-doubt and physically manifest what I wanted.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in many different things, I am a Multimedia Journalist, Social Media Specialist, Photographer, Videographer, Real Estate Agent, and last but not least a Professional Spanish Interpreter. All these things go hand in hand with each other but I would say I am most proud of and what has my heart the most is being a Journalist. I don’t want to say that something specifically sets me apart because we all make our own unique mark with our work and essence. I will say that what drives me to have the passion I do for Journalism is the adrenaline it produces in me from beginning to end, there are so many levels that go into creating the story. From looking for the story, why the story is of interest to local residents, the structure, the interviews, the visual storytelling, how to capture and keep the audience captivated, the editing and everything else that comes with it is what fills my heart up.
Any big plans?
For my future, I plan to be a much better and refined version of what I am today from the many hats I wear. Outside of work, I plan to fulfill my dream of visiting Paris one day, it’s a dream I’ve held close to my heart since I was a little girl and I strive to hopefully achieve it by September of 2025.
