Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Davis.
Hi Darius, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in the amazing city of Atlanta, GA! Out of high school, I received a full-ride PGA Golf Management scholarship to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). While attending UMES, I competed on the Division 1 Men’s Golf Team and became a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. As part of the PGA program, I had to complete 16 months of internships at various private golf clubs. I chose East Lake Golf Club, Wade Hampton, Capital City Club, and Topgolf Atlanta Midtown. Once I officially graduated college and became a Class A PGA member, I received a job offer to become the Lead Golf Instructor at Topgolf Orlando. Post covid, I was able to work as the Director of Instruction in opening the venue of Topgolf Lake Mary.
Throughout my time venturing in the PGA Golf Industry, I stumbled upon the insurance claims adjusting industry. I studied methodically and was able to obtain my All-Lines Adjusters license. Therefore, Five Star Claims Adjusting hired me as a Commercial & Residential Public Claims Adjuster. My company is now the largest Public Adjusting firm in Florida!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life wasn’t always sweet. I lost my father at the age of 13, which was a tender age in any young man’s life. Regardless, God had a plan to fulfill my purpose. After my dad passed away, I tried golf for the first time, and it changed my life. I hold golf very close to my heart since it was my father’s favorite sport to play. Today, I spread the love and knowledge of the game through multiple avenues. I am currently an Independent PGA Contractor/ Instructor.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I give complete credit to God first! He allowed everything to align in my life, that has put me where I am today. Next will be my mother. She made many sacrifices for me to continue to grow in life and in the game of golf. I also have very supportive family members such as my sister, brothers, cousins, and Aunts who have always seen the vision. Growing up, I had many mentors in the junior golf industry, such as Coach Jeff Dunovant, Coach Jeff Taylor, and Coach Nyre Williams. Once I arrived at college, I had many more great gentlemen as mentors. Malachi Knowles (Director and Founder of African American Golfers Hall of Fame), Ernest Boger (Retired Department Chair of the Hospitality and Tourism program), Marshall Cropper (Men’s Golf Team Head Coach), Billy Dillon (Director of PGA Golf Management Program) and Chris Prosser (Internship Coordinator) were great role-models for me to look up to.
My fraternity brothers, teammates, and friends played a vital role in continuous motivation as well!
