Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Morales
Hi Desiree, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Resilience, determination, and perseverance have shaped my journey. I left Puerto Rico nearly bankrupt, with only four suitcases and $4,000 in savings, along with my husband and two daughters, holding onto the hope of a fresh start. I left behind everything I was losing to begin again. Arriving in a new country, completely on our own, was my first act of courage—the first step in overcoming fear. From that moment on, my life became a constant pursuit of opportunities.
We lived in a small apartment and faced many challenges that could have made me give up. Our car was stolen, I couldn’t work because my youngest daughter was still little, we I never gave up. I focused on meeting people and building connections, and as soon as Mia started school, I was able to find a job. I have always loved working, helping, and connecting with others.
Along the way, I did a bit of everything. I worked in retail, but I always felt deep inside that there was something more for me. In Puerto Rico, I had been a nail technician for many years, so in Florida, I decided to complete my education, obtain my Nails license, and start working in the beauty industry again. I spent 10 years as a nail technician in Kissimmee, meeting amazing people and learning so much. During that time, my third child was born, who is now seven years old. Later, we moved to North Carolina for a while, but my heart always belonged to Florida, so we returned.
When I came back, I resumed my work as a nail technician, unaware that God had something even bigger planned for me. One of my clients Jessica Nazario always told me that I had the potential to be a Realtor because I loved helping people. That idea started to take root in my mind. I had personally experienced the frustration of wanting to buy a home but not finding Realtors who would truly guide me—they would simply tell me I didn’t qualify and leave me without explaining what I needed to do. I kept wondering, Why are they like this? Why don’t they help?
For a year, my client kept telling me the same thing, until one day, while sitting at my nail table, she surprised me—she booked an appointment for me at a real estate school. I went, took on the challenge, completed the classes, and within two weeks, I was taking my state exam… and I passed! At that moment, I became the kind of Realtor I had always wished to find.
Since then, my mission has been to help people achieve their goal of homeownership and provide them with the guidance I once lacked. I have learned that when something inside us tells us there’s more, it’s because there is more. God has great things in store for us, but we must be willing to seek them.
I have been through a lot, and there wouldn’t be enough time to tell every story. But every experience has taught me to train my mind to see the good in every situation. If I hadn’t hit rock bottom financially, if my car hadn’t been stolen, if I hadn’t fought for something better, none of this would have happened. It was all part of the plan.
Today, I am a Broker Associate, and I love helping people and families achieve their goals. Additionally, six years ago, we founded Turisteando Viajes, our virtual travel agency, where we continue to serve with the same passion and commitment.
My entire life revolves around service. I don’t see what I do as work—I serve and enjoy what I do every single day. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to help others and make a difference in their lives.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me into the person I am today. When we arrived in Florida, we had almost nothing—just four suitcases, $4,000 in savings, and a desire to start fresh. Adjusting to a new place with no family, no established career, and very limited resources was incredibly difficult.
One of the biggest struggles was financial instability. My husband was the only one working at the time, earning a modest salary as a dishwasher, while I stayed home taking care of our youngest daughter. We had moments where we didn’t know how we would make it to the next month. Then, our car was stolen, adding another layer of difficulty to an already tough situation
When I was finally able to work, I took on any job I could find—retail, odd jobs—anything to contribute and keep us moving forward. But deep inside, I knew I was meant for more. I just didn’t know what yet.
Even when I became a licensed nail technician and built a stable clientele, I still felt something was missing. The real struggle was internal—knowing that I had the potential for something bigger but not yet having clarity on what that was.
When I transitioned into real estate, new challenges arose. Learning an entirely new industry, building trust with clients, and proving myself in a competitive market were not easy tasks. I had to work harder than ever, constantly educating myself and stepping out of my comfort zone.
Despite all of these struggles, I never let obstacles define me. I believe that every challenge is an opportunity for growth. If I had not gone through financial hardship, uncertainty, and even personal setbacks, I wouldn’t have developed the resilience and determination that drive me today.
Nothing about my journey has been easy, but it has been worth it. I have learned that struggles are not meant to stop us—they are meant to shape us, push us, and prepare us for the next level. And through it all, my faith and my belief in serving others have kept me moving forward.
