Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominick Walker
Hi Dominick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are a husband and wife team from Lakeland, FL. Leading up to 2019, we were looking for a way to engage with our local community by supporting them economically. We didn’t want to just write a donation check though, we actually wanted to be a part of the cause and feel a connection with the community. We started Domi Italian Ice with that in mind. We combined a fun product with a giving back premise. Because we love quality food, the ice was always going to be a premium product. Our ice is locally made, handcrafted, made in small batches and is blended with real fruit!
Domi Italian Ice had its first event at an African Methodist Episcopal church in Tampa in May 2019 and fast forward today, we have over 100+ community partners, 6 trucks, and seasonal kiosks in the Kia Center, the FBC Mortgage Stadium, and the Inter & Co Stadium. We are proud of our mobile Italian ice company centered around community engagement and organizational fundraising.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Italian Ice isn’t widely known around Florida like ice cream. We had to do a lot of research into this industry before launching. We didn’t come from a long line of business owners or Italian Ice makers. Everything we learned was information we had to find. There weren’t a lot of resources available regarding how to make, store and distribute the product. We learned all of that through trial and error.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We like to think that we are a bit innovative and modern in this dated industry. The way we think about things is just different. We’re in it so that everybody wins and we like to look good doing it!
The way Domi Italian ice looks is important to us. We have vibrant colors, we use quality ingredients, and we have beautiful and tasty ice flavor combinations.
We love that our product spans all generations and genres. It’s something the young and the old enjoy, it’s something vegans can indulge in, and it’s refreshing and flavorful until the last spoonful. That’s what sets us an apart from some of the other traditional frozen desserts.
Our small business has donated over $150,000 to our community partners. That number continues to grow as we collaborate with local businesses who want to see their community thrive.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Seeing the smiles on the faces of students of our school partners. We love hearing the different “Domi Ice” chants the elementary students come up with!
We also enjoy when we are someone’s first introduction to Italian Ice.
