Meet Dr. Cerenity CarMichael of Thriving Harmony LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Cerenity CarMichael

Hi Dr. CarMichael, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started with a longing to understand how people’s brains work and how they navigate their emotions and experiences. That curiosity led me to pursue a journey in the mental health field, which began with a Bachelor of Science in psychology (2017) and a dual degree consisting of a Master of Science and an Education Specialist degree in Mental Health Counseling (2019) from Florida State University (FSU) and began working as a mental health counselor. This role allowed me to support individuals in meaningful ways. Along the way, I realized how much I enjoyed mentoring and guiding college students, which inspired me to take a leap of faith into teaching. In 2023, I became an adjunct professor, teaching graduate students online. This year (2024), I achieved a major milestone by completing my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, deepening my passion for counseling and education.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road; there have been challenges and obstacles every step of the way. As a first-generation college student, I had to navigate many ‘firsts’ with little to no guidance, which was both empowering and overwhelming. I’ve faced life transitions, health issues, trauma, and losses, all while juggling school, work, business, and personal responsibilities. I’ve experienced the struggles of job searches, took on the role of a caregiver, and wrestled with feelings of survivor’s guilt. These challenges have shaped me, making me more empathetic and resilient, and have deepened my passion for helping others navigate their own struggles

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a licensed mental health counselor, my work focuses on creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their emotions, navigate life’s challenges, and work toward meaningful change. I specialize in helping individuals facing transitions, trauma, anxiety, depression, feelings of being overwhelmed, and more. My practice is built on empathy, understanding, and an individualized approach to counseling.

What sets me apart is the lived experience I bring to my work. As a first-generation college graduate, I’ve faced challenges that resonate with many of my clients—balancing life’s demands, dealing with grief, and overcoming obstacles. This perspective helps me connect on a deeper level, offering not only professional expertise but also genuine understanding.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of fostering an environment of hope and healing. I want readers to know that my services are rooted in compassion, tailored to meet unique needs, and driven by the belief that growth is always possible. Whether through counseling, workshops, speaking engagements, or online resources, my goal is to empower clients to thrive.

I am dedicated to upholding professional practice standards through my commitment to promoting and destigmatizing therapy for Black Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) individuals and families, with a specific focus on the Black community. I am acutely aware of the unique hurdles faced by these communities, including cultural stigmas, systemic barriers, and a lack of representation in the mental health field.

I provide telehealth services that offer flexible options, allowing clients to receive support from the comfort and privacy of their homes. This approach is especially important for individuals residing in remote areas, those with physical disabilities, and those dealing with social anxiety. I aim to ensure that mental health care is inclusive, equitable, and accessible.

I provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy, as well as consultations. Moving forward, I plan to expand into offering workshops and speaking engagements focused on mental health education and advocacy, online courses, and self-help resources that address mental health topics from diverse perspectives.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
This is only a small portion of my story. My accomplishments are not a small feat and though I make it look easy, I had to fight and work for what I have. My network and support are very important in everything that I do. I am proud to say that I am a walking testimony. If you told me five years ago that I would be where I am today, I would have laughed. You’ll be seeing more of me as I do business as (DBA) Peaces of Cerenity. I’m excited to continue to share my journey, empower individuals, and expand my reach through workshops, and online courses. There’s so much more to come, and I can’t wait to connect with more people on their path to healing and growth.
