Meet Dylan Webb of DW Baking

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Webb.

Hi Dylan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My grandma was a professional baker, who had a successful business and taught classes. Ever since I was very little, every time my grandparents would visit, my grandma would bake with me. We started with simple mug cakes and pies but it led to my love of baking. As she got older, she couldn’t visit as much so I began baking on my own. I began baking on my own with boxed mixes and premade frostings. This allowed me to improve my baking and decorating skills, which led to me forming my own recipes. About a year ago, I began selling to friends and family. I continue to sell for my friends and family but now also sell at local markets. The majority of my sales are from friends and family but the Oviedo Mall has brought me lots of business through their Spring Market.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a mostly smooth road for me. I am very lucky to come from a family with their own small businesses. My mother owns her own business and has been able to teach me everything she learnt so I don’t have to make lots of mistakes. I have also had lots of opportunities for sales. Currently, my only struggle is the passing of my grandma. She is the reason I began baking and gave me lots of advice and tips. Her passing has made it hard for me to want to bake.

We’ve been impressed with DW Baking, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in cupcakes and cakes. Although these are my favorites and what I’m most known for, I am able to bake anything. I create specialized desserts even if I have never baked certain items before. I offer all types of baked goods including breads, cakes, cookies, and pastries with interesting flavors.

What’s next?
I am going to attend college at Johnson and Wales in North Carolina. I was recently accepted to the Early Enrollment Program at JWU and will further my baking education through their Baking and Pastry Arts and Food and Beverage Management degree. This will allow me to improve my current knowledge of baking and hopefully open my own permanent store.
