Today we’d like to introduce you to Edna Wilson.
Hi Edna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Eight years ago, almost to the day, I found myself at a crossroads. I had reached the peak of my career as a philanthropist and fundraiser for a national company, and while I loved the work, I felt an undeniable pull toward something new. Real estate had been on my mind, mostly because my husband was a handyman, and I thought perhaps there could be an opportunity there for us as a team. Quietly, without telling a soul, I enrolled in real estate school, unsure where it would lead.
What happened next was nothing short of life-changing. It was the first week of July when I took my very first client out to see homes. She was a single mother with three children, and by the end of that week, she was under contract to buy a house. The moment was incredible. I felt an overwhelming sense of purpose knowing I had helped her achieve something so significant for her family. The high I felt from helping her was unlike anything I had experienced before. That was when I knew – this was it. Real estate wasn’t just a career; it was a calling. Since then, the journey has been nothing short of amazing, and I remain grateful every day for taking that first leap of faith.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No road to success is ever smooth – that much I know for sure. My journey in real estate has been filled with bumps and unexpected turns. I had only been in the business for three years when COVID-19 shut down not just the nation, but the entire world. Overnight, everything changed, and we had to pivot quickly.
That’s one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned in this career: it’s all about how you pivot. How you adjust to a shifting market. How you face challenges that seem terrifying and still stand up, take a deep breath, and move forward anyway. COVID was, without question, the biggest curveball of my career so far. Yet, despite the fear and uncertainty, it turned out to be an amazing ride. Helping people find stability and security in their homes during such a frightening time was an incredible blessing, and it reminded me why I do what I do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Most people laugh when they hear my slogan: “As hometown as apple pie.” It sounds simple, even a little corny, but it came from a place of pure determination. I grew up in this tiny town where it feels like I know just about everyone. When I first became a realtor, I was desperate to find a way to market myself and let people know I was here to help them with one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
What I quickly discovered was that people weren’t just looking for someone to open doors and write offers. They were desperate for professionalism, for someone who truly cared. Buying or selling a home isn’t just another transaction – it’s life-changing. This is your largest investment, your security, your future. Why would anyone trust that process to someone working part-time at Walmart and part-time selling real estate? That never made sense to me. I knew if I was going to do this, I had to go all in.
So I did. I quit my job and committed fully to real estate, and I’ve never looked back. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. Today, my company and I care deeply about this community. Each year, one of our greatest joys is hosting a shoe drive, where we provide over 500 brand-new pairs of shoes from Rack Room Shoes to kids who need them for the upcoming school year. It’s probably what we’re most proud of. Watching these children light up as they pick out their shoes is life-changing for them – and for us. We do plenty of other philanthropic work too, because giving back is at the heart of who I am, but the shoe drive will always be something incredibly special.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up here on Florida’s Space Coast was incredible. We were so close to the theme parks and the beach, and that made for a really fun childhood. But even as a little kid – I’m talking three or four years old – I had this deep desire to help people. I can remember dreaming about becoming a missionary when I grew up. Eventually, I went on my first mission trip and realized that foreign travel just wasn’t for me, so I shifted my focus to local missions instead. Interestingly enough, real estate has opened so many doors for me to serve my community in meaningful ways, and I truly love that.
As a child, I was always social and a natural leader – captain of the cheerleading squad, involved in everything. But despite that, my teachers never really expected me to become much of anything, mostly because I never stopped talking. Talking has always been my thing, and as it turns out, it has served me pretty well in life. Storytelling, too, has been a big part of who I am. When I was little, I loved telling stories. I just loved making people laugh or dream with the things I shared, and I always thought that was pretty amazing.
