Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Milam.
Hi Eric, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The secret to any success I’ve had is simple… Faith and service.
Stepping out on my own to start a business was something I’d always wanted to do but was never truly prepared for. At the time (July 2016), as a single father of a little girl just out of diapers, 6 months into a new mortgage, and only a couple months worth of padding in the bank account, I was hardly ready to take the leap of faith into entrepreneurship. God, however, had better plans.
I was at a crossroads with my current employer, and to remain faithful to God would require leaving them. I believe that we should be keeping all ten commandments, including the one that starts with “Remember the Sabbath… the Seventh Day”
Regarding the Sabbath, God’s day of rest, and the IT industry (which never rests) you would think that there would be no place for us here, but it’s never been an issue, at all, with our clients. The commandment also requires that we work the other 6 days, so being open on Sundays actually gives us a bit of an edge above the competition in this space.
I’ll be candid… I worried a bit for the first few months, but one miracle after another occurred to keep the business afloat. I’ve since stopped worrying about what’s next, or what to do about the future. That’s in the Creator’s hands.
About 3 years ago I was asked to speak at the Crooms Academy IT Magnet School in Sanford FL by one of our clients, who is a teacher there. Being allergic to public speaking, I thought well, it’s a government school so there’s no way they’ll let me talk about faith, so… checkmate. Wrong! I was given the green light to discuss morality and its Author. I couldn’t believe I didn’t tank in front of those high school kids, in fact several came up after my presentation and thanked me for speaking on the topic and shared their faith with me! It really was a seminal moment for me as a Christian to see that response.
I just showed up and Jesus did the heavy lifting… Truly amazing!! Soon after, I was asked to work some big events handing out books to large crowds, which I have been doing ever since. I’ve also taken up this work on my own in the Philippines and locally.
I’ve been given the opportunity to help others with their IT issues and am always looking for the chance to have a conversation about faith with our clients. Literature evangelism has also become a big part of the routine. There’s something that’s so fulfilling about sharing tangible truth with others… I can’t recommend it enough, even (especially) if it’s “not really your thing” as was my case. Reading and sharing ‘The Great Controversy’ has been one of the great joys of my life.
In short, if you’re being called, ANSWER!! You won’t believe what’s on the other side!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Many trials… Some still ongoing… Nothing insurmountable.
I’ve just learned to deal with adversity by chalking it up to life lessons.
If it has happened, it’s God’s Will. Act accordingly.
