Meet Eric Patterson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Patterson.

Hi Eric, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was 17 years old, I lost my father due to a doctors mistake, he had sickle cell trait and was having trouble with his respiratory breathing this particular day so the doctor suggested that he was having strep throat symptoms and offer a medication without actually going through x-ray procedures to see if he had fluid or anything else that was causing the issue. They sent him an hour later, he had an allergic reaction to the medication and he died. That was only the beginning to my pain my mom kicks me out a year after my dad passed over a dude she just met that felt I was supposed to be “oh so far ahead” and not moping around grieving over his father.

So once I was kicked out, I was scared didn’t really know to much about the streets so I was house to house, trap house, garages anywhere I could lay my head down for the night. I met friends who I later consider family who had a troubled upbringing, we form a bond but in other people’s eyes, we were a “gang” we did what any other family would, and that protects each other. But even protecting each other came with a cost, we would fight other people but that didn’t really last long before they start using guns and the friends I called family started dying. After going through the whole street life experience, I never stop writing poetry during this whole process. The writing was my escape from the world. People often told me how good I was but I just considered myself a pain writer because I was writing from a hurt place. Overtime after being antagonized by family and friends, I finally decided to go through the process to release a book and I did now I have five published books on Amazon. I was depressed for a very long time I struggle with suicide I wanted to kill myself so bad because the pain felt like it’s bearable most time, but when it got to that point, I found a love for punching things (boxing) and working out. After years of aggression and working out, I finally decide to go through the process and get my personal license, and now I’m certified.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth ride at all for me I battled with depression along with suicide thoughts throughout my grieving for the loss of my father. I lost a lot of close friends to me as well, either to a jail cell or death.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently a personal trainer and published author. I’ll start with personal training first- I love being a personal trainer because I get to physically help people who need assistance with building the courage to conquer their fears of working out. It’s beautiful to help them reach the goals that they set out. Being an author is much more meaningful just on the strength I was blessed with a gift to be able to write from my heart from my experiences and possibly help somebody who may be struggling with things they been through.

What makes you happy?
My little brother makes me happy and reasons why he’s an autistic big bundle of joy and happiness he definitely my light during the dark days that I experience and always kept me driven to do and want better.
