Meet Genesis Fuenmayor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Genesis Fuenmayor. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Lola’s Bakery was born in 2018, when its creator Genesis Fuenmayor decided to be an entrepreneur, be independent and work in something exciting, developing the passion for pastry that she inherited from her mother Lola, in order to delight palates with art full of flavors and at the same time honor her memory. Her work is a combination between the experience living with her mom in the kitchen back on Venezuela, the discovery of new flavors thanks to the multiculturalism in the new country that she has taken like home (USA) and her formal studies accomplished at August Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. Lola’s Bakery is especially dedicated to make fully customized cakes for all kinds of events and to achieve that her creator uses different design techniques such as elaboration of modeled figures, sugar impressions, handling of pastillage, confection of three-dimensional cakes, manufacture of artistic pieces made with rice paper, waffle and caramel, among other techniques. In simple words…. To create your dream cake, they are dedicated to baking the difference combining art and flavor.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has been not. First of all, coming to a new country where you have to learn the culture, the language, the business, the customer preferences and other stuff takes time. Besides that, customized cakes is something that renews every year and you have to be actualized. I have made many mistakes relative to sugar work, choosing ingredients, supporting and traveling a 5 tier cake, so many ‘errors’ that fortunately today I can say that I have learned from those mistakes and I am a better Pastry Chef than I was a couple of years ago. Losing my mom was another struggle, besides the fact that I could not be with her for two years before she passed away, that it’s just something that I have learned how to survived with it and I try to honor her with the Bakery with every creation that I make. I feel that with every flavor that my customers enjoy, my mom is still alive in those moments of joy and sweet pleasure. Also, being entrepreneur is not as easy as it sounds. It is true that you are going on your own time but you are on charge of everything, in my case for example I cover all the departments: Customer Service, Administration, Inventory, Photography, Marketing and Publicity, Baking, Decoration, Delivery, but for my passion is an effort that I am willing to take every day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Pastry Chef. I specially on making customized cakes for all kinds of events, but also I do desserts, and lately I have been promoting my business on the Farmers Market. I have a few plans on the future like opening a Coffee Shop, give classes about decorations of cakes and elaboration of desserts. I have a recipe book that combines flavors from my country (Venezuela) and flavors from here (America) and another cultures like Italy, Puerto Rico, Peru, Argentina and others. My desserts confections goes from cookies, macaroons, pies to mini cakes of different flavors, my best sellers are Marble, Chocolate Baileys Irish Cream, Red Velvet and Tres Leches. I am proud that every day I do something to keep with my business and make it grow. I am happy that my mom would be proud of me because my family is. I am also proud for learning another language and studying my all culinary carrier on English. The best part for me is when my customers say that it is incredible to see so many impressive cakes and not yet be the best part because when they taste the flavors, they get even more amazing.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see myself opening 1 or 2 Coffee Shops, also opening a Class Room to provide personal courses and online, maybe participating in some bakers contests.

    La mejor en postres en arte de todas las q he probado en fiestas es la única que puedo decir con toda certeza que sus tortas y postres no empalagan. Es excelente con sus creación realizó la torta de graduación de mi hijo y la de su cumpleaños tiene el balance en los sabores q trabaja la calidad y la delicadeza con la q prepara sus artes es única bendiciónes bella serás muy exitosa

    Génesis makes amazing and delicious cakes. She is a true artist and her creations are amazing. I have seen her work and I highly recommend her. She has even made gluten free cakes for us.

    Ordered two cakes and they were completely delicious and moist cakes. not to mention so beautiful! Genesis has an amazing talent for what she does! Always recommend her to anyone I come across 🙂
