Today we’d like to introduce you to Genesis Gutierrez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started off as a home baker during my middle & high school years baking for family and friends as well as baking to raise funds for dance trips. Later on, I moved to Orlando for college and focused more on my studies.
I would occasionally bake for myself during my college years when I studied nursing and once COVID hit, I used baking to help give me stress relief due to working as a nurse during the pandemic. I decided to start my small business to begin selling my delicious treats after realizing I had passion still for baking and wanted to share it with everyone around me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always challenges to starting something new. I am new to owning a business, so learning what laws exist and how they apply was and still is a bit of a challenge.
I have learned the little I know thanks to local bakers on local Facebook groups. Learning new techniques, flavor combinations, and art styles always poses challenges. It is frustrating at the moment because it’s new and I have no idea what I’m doing but in the end, becomes rewarding to see that I can achieve the goals I set for myself.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full-time ICU nurse and a part-time baker. As a baker, I currently offer a variety of treats such as cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, cakesicles, and chocolate-dipped desserts but I am most known for my decorated sugar cookies which I absolutely love creating.
I am most proud of being able to master new techniques little by little which allows me to always provide my customers with the most modern and beautiful sets. I set myself apart by allowing customers to customize their orders 100% using colors, metallic accents, and themes. I love being able to take inspirational pictures provided by the customer and turn them into something new, tailored to fit their perfect event.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is measured by the happiness my customer feels when seeing their order for the very first time. Having customer satisfaction at the end of every order is a huge win because it gives me the feel-good that I need to continue working to create more satisfied customers.
