Meet Gizelle Perez of Poinciana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gizelle Perez

Hi Gizelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey truly began during the pandemic when I was furloughed as a restaurant bartender. What initially felt like a setback, turned out to be a blessing from God. The time I was given to spend with my family made me realize I wanted to pursue a path that allowed me to prioritize them while also using the gifts God has given me. When I moved back to Orlando from Jacksonville, my family encouraged me to explore braiding – something I never imagined as a career.

In October 2020, I took my first braiding class, trusting that God was leading me into something new. From there, he opened doors for me to continue learning, connecting with other braiders, and building relationships within the community. Every step of the way, he guidance has been evident.

Since starting, I’ve been able to grow my skills and use my business to bless others through events like brunches,braid-a-thons, and going to expo’s as a vendor and as a spectator. I credit my success to God’s grace with added work ethic and the connections he’s placed in my life. Becoming my own boss has not only allowed me to provide for my family but also to homeschool my children and spend meaningful time with them. This journey is something I could never have imagined for myself, and I give all the glory to God for where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Some expos turned out to be more work than profit, and not all braiders were as welcoming as I’d hoped when entering the beauty industry. Being home-based also felt isolating at times, and I had to push myself to stay motivated and focus in thr bigger picture which is freedom from the workplace. I’m so grateful I did because now I have a healthy, diverse flow of clients of all ages and backgrounds.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
While I would classify myself as an artist/creative because of the artistry involved in braiding , I also run my own business, which allows me to combine creativity with entrepreneurship.

I specialize in braids and loc styles, focusing on cornrows and box braids. What I’m most proud of is creating a space where every client feels completely safe, comfortable, and valued. Each appointment is more than just a service – it’s an experience. I genuinely enjoy connecting with every client, making the process enjoyable and personal.

What sets me apart is my approachable, friendly nature and the collaborative environment I foster. Clients are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and actively participate in bringing their vision to life. I’m also proud to offer braid services for children, something many stylists don’t provide, ensuring even the youngest clients leave feeling confident and cared for.

Wether it’s crafting a unique style or simply having great conversations, my goal is always to exceed expectations and create beautiful results that my clients love.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as using the gifts God has given me to bless others while providing for my family in every way, not just financially.
It’s about creating a life where I can support my family and be present for them, all while doing the work I’m passionate about without the pressure of a boss looking over my shoulder.

For me true success is living a purpose-driven life that honors God and allows me to serve others.
